WEATHER GUARD PRCA World Standings Watch: Standings Shuffle – 34 Cowboys Move Up

With $757,562 up for grabs at the RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo in Kissimmee, Fla., and nearly $100,000 at the Oakdale (Calif.) Saddle Club Rodeo, it’s no surprise that 37 cowboys made substantial gains in the WEATHER GUARD® PRCA World Standings this past week.

Several cowboys weren’t even in the Top 50 prior to the RNCFR and are now in the Top 15.

Edward Hawley Jr. moved from 145th to 14th in the team roping headers
Ty Romo moved from 142nd to 14th in the team roping heelers
Jesse Stipes moved from 125th to 11th in the team roping headers
Buddy Hawkins moved from 69th to 10th in the team roping heelers

The team roping duo of Coleman Proctor and b had one of the most unusual shifts in the world standings. Two weeks ago, they were ranked 44th and 43rd respectively and jumped to 10th thanks to placing second at Rodeo Austin, then placing second in the average at the RNCFR propelled them to fourth in the world standings.

Veteran and rookie cowboys alike know it’s easier to maintain a position at the top, when aiming for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo presented by Polaris RANGER, than it is to play catch-up for a qualifying position in the world standings, so it’s important to build a solid lead as the summer season approaches.

The following cowboys saw their position in the world standings improve between April 3 and April 10.

Tanner Learmont moved from 29th to seventh in the bull riding
J.D. Struxness moved from 38th to 15th in the steer wrestling
Justin Shaffer moved from 28th to 10th in the steer wrestling
Jordan Spears moved from 26th to 12th in the bull riding
Joseph Parsons moved from 41st to 15th in the tie-down roping
Chuck Schmidt moved from 20th to eighth in the saddle bronc riding
Caleb Bennett moved from 18th to fifth in the bareback riding
Olin Hanum moved from 10th to third in the steer wrestling
Jesse Wright moved from 15th to seventh in the saddle bronc riding
Tyrell Smith moved from 13th to sixth in the saddle bronc riding
Randall Carlisle moved from 16th to sixth in the tie-down roping
R.C. Landingham moved from 11th to fourth in the bareback riding
J.R. Vezain moved from 19th to 14th in the bareback riding
Matt Shiozawa moved from 18th to ninth in the tie-down roping
Matt Reeves moved from 15th 11th in the steer wrestling
Justin Miller moved from 12th to 10th in the bareback riding
Blaine Jones moved from 14th to 12th in the steer wrestling
Russell Cardoza moved from fifth to third in the team roping heeling
Bryson Sechrist moved from seventh to fourth in the tie-down roping
Wesley Thorp moved from seventh to fourth in the team roping heeling
Garrett Smith moved from second to first in the bull riding
J.C. Malone moved from third to second in the tie-down roping
Luke Brown moved from third to second in team roping heading
Roscoe Jarboe moved from fourth to third in the bull riding

Cowboys on the bubble for a spot in the Top 15 can find themselves just a few dollars short of making a Wrangler NFR qualification. The following cowboys climbed the standings to No. 16 this past week:

• Team roping header Hayes Smith moved from 31st to 16th and is $1,096 away from breaking into the Top 15.
• Steer wrestler Dean McIntyre moved from 33rd to 16th and is $823 away from breaking into the Top 15
• Bareback rider Wyatt Bloom moved from 21st to 16th and is $682 away from breaking into the Top 15
• Tie-down roper Josh Peek moved from 19th to 16th and is $1,118 from breaking into the Top 15

With the RAM National Circuit Steer Roping Finals and the Clovis (Calif.) Rodeo on the horizon, the outcomes of these rodeos and others are sure to impact the world standings in a big way, and possibly give a glimpse at who will compete in Las Vegas.

Check back with prorodeo.com next week to see who the new leaders are in the world standings.
