WEATHER GUARD PRCA World Standings Watch: Standings Shuffle – 32 Cowboys Move Up

With $1.83 million up for grabs among 31 PRCA rodeos across North America this past week, 32 cowboys saw their positions improve within the WEATHER GUARD® PRCA World Standings’ Top 15.

With only 39 days left in the season, it’s increasingly important to build a solid bankroll as the final stretch of the 2017 season approaches – and positions are changing frequently. For instance, there’s roughly only a $10,000 difference between 15th and 23rd in the steer wrestling standings.

Veteran and rookie cowboys alike know it’s easier to maintain a position at the top than it is to play catch-up when trying to qualify for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo presented by Polaris RANGER.

Nobody knows this better than steer wrestler Kyle Irwin, who moved up seven spots this week – from 18th to 11th – thanks to picking up $7,123 at the Caldwell (Idaho) Night Rodeo; $3,441 at the Canby (Ore.) Rodeo; and $1,617 at the Lynden (Wash.) PRCA Rodeo.

Having five rodeos with six-figure payoffs proved to be a major boost as cowboys competed for $297,374 at Caldwell; $198,433 at the Fallon County Fair & Rodeo in Baker, Mont.; $133,885 at the Yellowstone River Round-Up in Billings, Mont.; $130,288 at Canby; and $116,809 at the Moses Lake (Wash.) Round-Up.

The following cowboys saw their position in the world standings improve between Aug. 14 and Aug. 22.

Cowboys on the bubble for a spot in the Top 15 can find themselves just a few dollars short of making a Wrangler NFR qualification. The following cowboys climbed the standings to No. 16 this past week:

• Team roping header Chad Masters moved from 19th to 16th and is $1,685 away from breaking into the Top 15.
• Saddle bronc rider Cort Scheer moved from 18th to 16th and is $10,112 away from breaking into the Top 15.
• Steer roper J.P. Wickett moved from 17th to 16th and is $393 away from breaking into the Top 15.

With the Rancho Mission Viejo Rodeo in San Juan Capistrano, Calif., on the horizon, the outcome of this rodeo and others is sure to impact the world standings, and possibly give a glimpse at who will compete at the 2017 Wrangler NFR.
