Standings Shuffle: 45 Move Up in Top 15

By Matt Naber

With more money up for grabs than ever before, some of the leaders in the 2019 PRCA | RAM World Standings have accumulated more than double what their respective event leaders had a year ago. Two cowboys already have surpassed the $100,000 milestone for season earnings – bareback rider Kaycee Feild and saddle bronc rider Ryder Wright.

The only events to not see a substantial increase in what it takes to be ranked No. 1 by mid-March are steer roping and bull riding.

Comparing the world standings from March 19, 2018, to March 19, 2019, the highest money earners in each event compare as follows:

Event  2018 2019
 Bareback riding $41,487 $104,913
 Steer wrestling $34,307 $85,708
 Team roping heading $40,437 $71,832
 Team roping heeling $40,437 $70,166
 Saddle bronc riding $63,794 $102,260
 Tie-down roping $43,735 $70,966
 Steer roping $35,642 $25,009
 Bull riding $78,999 $78,340

With RodeoHouston’s conclusion March 16, the winners of each event added more than $50,000 to their season earnings and saw a substantial leap in their position within the world standings.

Cowboys know it’s easier to maintain a position at the top than it is to play catch-up when trying to qualify for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Every dollar counts, and making the Top 15 in the PRCA | RAM World Standings early establishes a solid base and builds a cowboy’s confidence as the season picks up pace.

Nobody knows this better than team roping heeler Caleb Anderson. The North Carolina cowboy jumped 77 spots from 82nd to fifth in the world standings thanks to winning $30,000 at RodeoHouston alongside team roping header Jake Cooper.

Cowboys on the bubble for a spot in the Top 15 can find themselves a few dollars short of qualifying for the Wrangler NFR. The following cowboys climbed the standings to No. 16.

• Bareback rider Seth Hardwick moved from 30th and is $1,343 away from breaking into the Top 15.
• Team roping header Bart Brunson moved from 17th and is $680 away from breaking into the Top 15.

With the RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo happening March 21-24 and Rodeo Austin (Texas) underway, these rodeos and others are sure to have a big impact on the world standings.
