WEATHER GUARD PRCA World Standings Watch: Standings Shuffle – 31 Cowboys Move Up

With $752,087 up for grabs between 14 PRCA rodeos across the country this past weekend – 31 cowboys saw their position improve within the WEATHER GUARD® PRCA World Standings’ Top 15.

Veteran and rookie cowboys alike know it’s easier to maintain a position at the top than it is to play catch-up when trying to qualify for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo presented by Polaris RANGER. It’s important to build a solid lead as the summer season approaches.

Several of the Top 15 cowboys saw their position in the world standings improve, largely thanks to the $181,013 payoff at the Redding (Calif.) Rodeo and the $92,800 payoff at the Wrangler Champions Challenge presented by Justin Boots, which was also held in Redding.

The following cowboys saw their position in the world standings improve between May 15 and May 22.

Cody Pearson moved from 22nd to 14th in team roping heeling.
Ryan Reed moved from 20th to 14th in team roping heading.
Scott Guenthner moved from 21st to 15th in steer wrestling.
Brady Portenier moved from 18th to 13th in bull riding.
Wesley Thorp moved from seventh to third in team roping heeling.
Chet Herren moved from ninth to fifth in steer roping.
Matt Reeves moved from 13th to 10th in steer wrestling.
Ryder Wright moved from 14th to 11th in saddle bronc riding.
Jeremy Buhler moved from 18th to 15th in team roping heeling.
Taos Muncy moved from 18th to 15th in saddle bronc riding.
Ty Breuer moved from 16th to 13th in bareback riding.
J. Tom Fisher moved from 10th to eighth in steer roping.
Dakota Eldridge moved from 11th to ninth in steer wrestling.
Jake Wright moved from 12th to 10th in saddle bronc riding.
Clayton Biglow moved from 14th to 12th in bareback riding.
Cade Swor moved from 15th to 13th in tie-down roping.
Luke Brown moved from second to first in team roping heading.
Caleb Smidt moved from third to second in tie-down roping.
Marcos Costa moved from fourth to third in tie-down roping.
Vin Fisher Jr. moved from fourth to third in steer roping.
Jake Brown moved from fifth to fourth in bareback riding.
Baylor Roche moved from fifth to fourth in steer wrestling.
Kaleb Driggers moved from fifth to fourth in team roping heading.
Junior Nogueira moved from fifth to fourth in team roping heeling.
Shane Hanchey moved from fifth to fourth in tie-down roping
Tyrell Smith moved from sixth to fifth in saddle bronc riding.
Jesse Stipes moved from 12th to 11th in team roping heading.
Dalan Duncan moved from 12th to 11th in bull riding.
Clayton Hass moved from 14th to 13th in team roping heading.

Cowboys on the bubble for a spot in the Top 15 can find themselves just a few dollars short of making a Wrangler NFR qualification. The following cowboys climbed the standings to No. 16 this past week:

• Team roping header Levi Simpson moved from 21st to 16th and is $1,080 away from breaking into the Top 15.
• Steer roper Brian Garr moved from 17th to 16th and is $597 away from breaking into the Top 15.

With two more WCC events and three Xtreme Bulls events on the horizon at the start of June, the outcome of these rodeos and others are sure to impact the world standings in a big way, and possibly give a glimpse at who will compete at the 2017 Wrangler NFR.

Check back with prorodeo.com next week to see who the new leaders are in the world standings.
