19-year-old Victorious in New Zealand

CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand – 19-year-old New Zealand native Merv Church stole the show away from Built Ford Tough Series regulars Silvano Alves, Matt Triplett and Robson Palermo on Thursday night to win the inaugural PBR New Zealand Cup event at Horsby Arena.

Church finished with an event-high 244 points and was one of six riders to go a perfect 3-for-3 in the event.

Justin Paton (238.5 points), Fraser Babbington (237), 2014 PBR Australia Champion Dave Kennedy (235.5) and Cliff Richardson (231) rounded out the Top 5.

Alves placed sixth with 231 points, including an 81-point effort on Argyle Hotel Dominator in Round 1. The 2014 World Champion won the previous Caboolture Invitational last weekend in Australia.

The tour returns to Australia on Saturday for the Troy Dunn Invitational on Saturday night.
