Reno Rodeo Contestants to Watch: Tuesday, June 19

Rough Stock Events – Bareback, Saddle Bronc and Bull Riding:

Competition Format – Bareback and saddle bronc riders have two full rounds. Their scores will be added together and the top 12 will advance to the championship finals. Bull riders ride once with the 12 highest scores competing for the championship.

The hometown crowd will see a lot of locals at tonight’s performance starting out with three Nevada boys in bareback. Minden, Nev.’s Wyatt and Grant Denny are sure to have a lot of fans cheering them on tonight. Wyatt was named the PRCA Resistol Bareback Riding Rookie of the Year in 2015 and has had a strong showing in bareback ever since. The brothers arrive fresh from a solid performance at the Stonyford (Calif.) Rodeo, where Grant placed first and Wyatt came in second. Wyatt is currently ranked No. 20 in the PRCA world standings and Grant is No. 28. Tony Barrington will also be up tonight. The Elko, Nev. native was ranked No. 10 in the Wilderness Circuit standings last year.

Saddle bronc rider, Joe Harper of Paradise, Nev. is hoping to have a good ride tonight. He’s currently sitting at No. 33 in the world standings. He’ll be chasing two-time world champ Chad Ferley of Oelrichs, S.D.

Bull rider Chase Dougherty of Canby, Ore. finished 2017 ranked at No. 19 in the world standings but a strong start to the year puts him at No. 9 currently. Jordan Spears of Redding, Calif. finished 2017 at No. 7. He was co-champion at the Sisters (Ore.) Xtreme Bulls and won the Bell County PRCA Rodeo in Belton, Texas earlier this year.

Timed Events – Steer Wrestling, Team Roping, Tie-Down Roping and Barrel Racing:

Competition Format – All of the timed-events feature two full rounds of competition. Their times are added together with the 12 contestants with the fastest total times advancing to the championship finals.

UNLV grad Sterling Lambert of Fallon will be representing Nevada in steer wrestling tonight. Competition will be stiff as he’ll be up against Cole Edge from Durant, Okla., who is currently No. 1 in the PRCA world standings.

Audience members will want to keep their eyes peeled for Andrew Ward of Edmond, Okla., the currently ranked No. 5 in PRCA world standings, who will be competing alongside older brother Reagan Ward in team roping. The two are fresh from a win at the Clark County Fair & Rodeo.

Oakdale, Calif. native Ryle Smith, currently No. 6 in the PRCA world standings for tie-down roping, will be looking for the fastest throw tonight. He’s already got three rodeo wins and the RAM California Circuit Finals win under his belt so far this year.

And in WPRA barrel racing, Teri Bangard of Olympia, Wash., will be taking the arena in barrel racing tonight. She’ll be looking to boost her current No. 22 place in the 2018 Pro Rodeo World Standings tonight, as well as take home some cash.
