Reno Rodeo Contestants to Watch: Wednesday, June 20

Rough Stock Events – Bareback, Saddle Bronc and Bull Riding:

Competition Format – Bareback and saddle bronc riders have two full rounds. Their scores will be added together and the top 12 will advance to the championship finals. Bull riders ride once with the 12 highest scores competing for the championship.

Brothers Grant and Wyatt Denny will face off again tonight in bareback. The local favorites will need high scores to bring up their combined scores and move on to the finals. Austin Foss will be looking to maintain his spot on the leaderboard. He is currently the overall runner up.

Cort Scheer, Elsmere, Neb., will be looking to maintain his current rank as No. 1 in the PRCA world standings. He had one of the best saddle bronc rides of the night last night with an 87.5.

Locals will want to keep their eyes out for Will Morris. The Reno, Nev. native will be taking the arena tonight in bull riding.

Timed Events – Steer Wrestling, Team Roping, Tie-Down Roping and Barrel Racing:

Competition Format – All of the timed-events feature two full rounds of competition. Their times are added together with the 12 contestants with the fastest total times advancing to the championship finals.

Steer wrestler Matt Reeves of Pampa, Texas is in Reno tonight to continue his climb up the PRCA world standings. Ranked No. 21 in 2017, Reeves is now sitting securely in the top 10 at No. 7. Rodeo is in the family, his father is a former tie-down roper and his wife is a barrel racer. Reeves will be up against No. 14 Billy Bugenig and No. 20 Will Lummus.

The audience will want to keep a lookout for team rope header Bubba Buckaloo, Kingston, Okla. He’s currently ranked No. 3 in world standings, and will be teaming up with Tyler Worley of Stephenville, Tex. The dynamic duo roped the top spot at the Flint Hills Rodeo earlier this month, and are no doubt looking to bring that recipe for success to the arena tonight.

All eyes will be on tie-down roping defending champ Ty Durfey of Weatherford, Tex., tonight. Currently ranked No. 1 in world standings, Ty already has five rodeo wins under his belt this year and is hoping to add one more to that roster.

Nevada will be well represented tonight in barrel racing. Local favorite Lita Scott from Carson City, Nev. will be taking the arena, as well as Lindsey Reed of Fallon, Nev. and Leslie Schur of Las Vegas, Nev. Lita Scott’s name is synonymous with barrel racing in Northern Nevada. The Reno native is a three-time NFR qualifier, 18-time California Circuit Qualifier and Cheyenne Frontier Days Champion. She produces numerous barrel races throughout the region and is the creator of the Lita Scott Reno Rodeo Jr NFR Qualifier.
