CABOOLTURE, Australia – Within hours of arriving in the country, three-time World Champion Silvano Alves dominated in his PBR Australia debut Saturday, going 2-for-3 to win the Caboolture Invitational.
In the opening round, Alves and Lachlan Richardson each put up 87.5 points. Alves earned the mark aboard Astro Boy, a bull that had previously been ridden just once. In all, nine riders made the whistle in the first round, including four-time PBR Australia Champion Dave Kennedy, who posted 86.5 points against Troubled Soul.
Alves delivered the top ride in Round 2 with 88 points on Rock Star, giving him a two-bull total of 175.5 points and the lead going into the championship round. Along with Alves, only two other riders rode each of their first two bulls. Richardson and Matt Triplett both finished Round 2 with 172.5 points.
Triplett, who finished the season ranked third on the Built Ford Tough Series, placed second in Round 2 with 87.5 points on Radford, while Robson Palermo put up 86.5 points on Black Barney for third in the round.
Kennedy was the only rider to post a score in the championship round with an event-best 88.5 points on Plant Hire. Kennedy finished with 175 points to place second, behind Alves. Triplett and Richardson tied for third.
Triplett was unsuccessful against Jackie Howe in the final round, and Richardson came down early against Rebel Yell, giving Alves the win before he attempted his last bull, Barn Yard. The Hall Rodeo-owned bull would be the first to buck him off on Australian soil.
The Brandenburg-owned Gotcha Rockn was named the Caboolture Invitational Bull of the Event.
From here, the tour heads to Christchurch, New Zealand, for the debut of the New Zealand Cup on Thursday night, before returning to Townsville, Australia, for the annual Troy Dunn Invitational on Saturday night.
