Back Seat Buckers Graduate Makes World Finals

PBR Livestock Director Cody Lambert has given Shaft the thumbs-up. After bucking off Jordan Hupp at the Battle at the Beau in Biloxi, Mississippi, last weekend, the bull from E-J/ Mike White Bucking Bulls will be making the trip to buck at the PBR World Finals.

The most elite PBR competition for both man and bull, it is extremely difficult for any athlete to make it to the heralded World Finals event in Las Vegas. Shaft, who is just 4 years old, got the nod yesterday from Lambert. He is the first graduate of the Back Seat Buckers program to receive this distinction.

Back Seat Buckers (BSB) is the turnkey bull ownership program created by PBR and ABBI. It allows anyone to become a stock contractor and provides complete care, housing and training for bulls during their first year of ABBI competition. The bulls spend their 2-year-old year in the Futurity class bucking against one another. First place at the BSB Finals is $100,000.

“Having a bull selected to buck at the most prestigious bull riding competition in the world is an honor and the dream of every stock contractor,” said owner Excell LaFayette Jr.  “My partner Mike White has done an outstanding job of entering Shaft in ABBI Classic/PBR events, which has helped him reach his full potential. Since Shaft graduated from the BSB program, we have brought him along slowly and we have given him a lot of time and attention. It is great to see that our method is paying off.”

“We are excited for Excell as well as the Back Seat Buckers (BSB) program. It really validates what we’re trying to do with BSB,” said Dan Meihak, Executive Director of ABBI

Shaft was part of the inaugural class of BSB bulls in 2012. As a Futurity competitor, Shaft finished fourth in the 2012 Back Seat Buckers World Finals winning $20,000.

“We are proud to own a bull like Shaft,” LaFayette said. “The fact that he has gone up against some of the best bull riders in the world and has remained unridden at this level is a great accomplishment. The fact that Cody Lambert sees worth in our bull is a huge compliment in itself, and we are excited to see what happens next.”

LaFayette owns the bulls with his wife Josephine. Their partner White is a legendary bull rider who has now found phenomenal success as a stock contractor and bull trainer, winning the ABBI’s prestigious Horizon Breeder of the Year Award. Spots are now available for the 2015 BSB season.
