Barbosa Wins in Uvalde

UVALDE, Texas – One of the PBR’s (Professional Bull Riders) latest Brazilian rookie sensations, Dener Barbosa (Paulo De Faria, Brazil), jumped into the Top 20 of the world standings after his win at the Cactus Jack Pro Bull Riders (PBR) Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour (RVT) event Saturday night.

After entering the night tied for seventh overall in the event, the 2016 PBR Brazil Champion made his presence known after an 81-point ride in Round 2 on the back of Runyonator (United Pro Rodeo). He then closed things out with an 86.5-point ride on Yoga (Currey Creek Bucking Bulls & Cattle Co.) in the championship round.

Barbosa’s 3-for-3 performance sealed the event victory, and 80 world points, moving him to No. 18 in the world standings. Barbosa also gained ground in the PBR Rookie of the Year race, where he now sits in third place, trailing 2012 PRCA champion Cody Teel by 300 points.

The 23-year-old is also walking away from the weekend with $8,681.67

Fabiano Vieira (Perola, Brazil) solidified a second-place finish after going 3-for-3 as well. Vieira rode The Way I Am (Hart Cattle Company) for 74.5 points on Friday night. He followed up on Saturday with an 85-point ride on Warrior (Billy Jones) in Round 2, and an 83-point trip aboard Glory Days (Plummer / Hart Cattle Co.) in the championship round.

Vieira earned 50 points toward the world standings, and a check for $6,614.32.

Third place went to fellow Brazilian rookie, Claudio Montanha Jr. (Ribeirao Dos Indios, Brazil). Montanha started the night tied for fifth overall before charging forward with a 68-point ride on the back of Bueler (Billy Jones) in Round 2, and finished with an 87-point on Have Ya Heard (United Pro Rodeo) in the championship round.

Montanha snatched 30 points toward the world standings, and $3,422.87. Montanha moved to No. 15 in the world standings after his finish in Uvalde, and his third place finish at the Built Ford Tough Series’ Tacoma Invitational back in April.

The No. 10 ranked bull rider in the world, Joao Ricardo Vieira (Itatinga, Brazil)placed fourth in this weekend’s event. Vieira started Round 2 with an 84-point ride on Back In Black (Currey Creek Bucking Bulls & Cattle Co.), before eventually getting bucked off by Hurricane Kitty (Martinez Bucking Bulls, LLC) in the championship round. Vieira took home 20 points toward the world standings, and $3,494.01.

Derek Kolbaba (Walla Walla, Washington), currently No. 4 in the world standings, finished in fifth place in Uvalde after going 2-for-3. Kolbaba rode Ajax (Hart Cattle Company) for 83.5 points in Round 2, before eventually falling short aboard Oscar P (Currey Creek Bucking Bulls & Cattle Co.) in the championship round. Kolbaba pocketed 20 world points, and $3,494.01 for the effort.

Skeeter Kingsolver (McLouth, Kansas) rounded out the Top 6, earning 10 points toward the world standings and $1,314.95.

Each of the Top 6 finishers in Uvalde are currently set to battle it out at the BFTS’ Last Cowboy Standing at Las Vegas Helldorado Days, May 12-13. The season’s third PBR Major, and final event of the first half of the BFTS season, will offer $100,000 to the winner and increased world points.

The Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour will next head to Decatur, Texas, for the annual J.W. Hart PBR Challenge on June 3 at the Wise County Fairgrounds.

The 2017 Velocity Tour will culminate with the Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour Finals at South Point Arena in Las Vegas on Oct. 28-30, leading into the PBR’s Built Ford Tough World Finals, Nov. 1-5 at T-Mobile Arena.
