Barbosa Wins the Rumble in the Rockies

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Five-year veteran Rubens Barbosa earned his first career PBR victory Sunday at The Broadmoor World Arena during the Professional Bull Riders Built Ford Tough Rumble in the Rockies, brought to you by your local Ford store and Sonic.

Barbosa rode Palm Springs (Cantankerous LLC) for 87.5 points to not only win the event, but also the Built Ford Tough Championship Round. He went 3-for-3 on the weekend, earning 580 event points, which catapulted him from 31st to 13th in the PBR world standings.

Barbosa had an aggregate total ride score of 260.75 points as he finished third in Round 1, fifth in Round 2 and first in the championships round, earning a paycheck of $37,950.00.

The 31-year old Brazilian was extremely humbled and overwhelmed after the event as he stood on the shark cage for the first time in his career. He was only able to say a humble “thank you” to the cheering fans.

J.B. Mauney followed up his victory last weekend in Des Moines, Iowa, with a second-place finish in Colorado Springs, adding 420 points to his world standings total.

Mauney needed only 87 points or higher in the championship round to take first place from Barbosa, but his 84.5-point ride score aboard Fire Rock (Jeff Robinson/TNT Bucking Bulls) was not enough for the 2013 PBR World Champion. Since winning in Des Moines and taking second place in Colorado Springs, Mauney has moved from the No. 12 to the No. 4 bull rider in the world.

Finishing in third place was leading Rookie of the Year contender Kaique Pacheco. The 20-year-old went 3-for-3 to collect 250 event points.

World No. 2 bull rider Matt Triplett broke out of a recent slump, going 4-for-4 on the weekend, including a second-place finish in the 15/15 Bucking Battle on Saturday. Triplett placed fourth overall in the event with 165 points, and he also earned an additional 82.5 points in the 15/15 Bucking Battle.

Triplett had been 0-for-7 since returning to the BFTS in Billings, Montana, two weeks ago.

With a bull score of 46.75 out of 50 points, Sweet Pro’s Long John (D&H Cattle Co.) was the Salem NationaLease High-marked Bull in Colorado Springs. Long John dispatched Nathan Schaper in 3.45 seconds during the 15/15 Bucking Battle on Saturday night to earn the title.

Colorado Springs is the 17th of 27 stops on the 2015 PBR Built Ford Tough Series schedule. The season will culminate with the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas on Oct. 21-25 when the 2015 PBR World Champion, the bull rider who earns the most points during the 2015 season, will receive the coveted World Championship belt buckle and a $1 million bonus.
