SAN ANTONIO, Texas – CoBurn Bradshaw was one happy cowboy when he left the AT&T Center on Saturday night.

Bradshaw from Beaver, Utah, has won $6,273 here in the saddle bronc riding and is the high-money winner here so far. He won the first round, placed second in the next round and won the third. Right behind him is his brother-in-law Jake Wright from Milford, Texas, who placed in two rounds and won the second. Jake has $5,703.

Because contestants here advance to the next level of competition, these two men are in really good shape to qualify for the championship finals in one week. First, they have to ride in the semifinals where money is nearly doubled.

“I’ve been dreaming of this for a long time,” Bradshaw said. “Last year was my first year here and it didn’t go so well.”

In 2015, Bradshaw split a fourth-place check for $285. He did have enough success at other rodeos to qualify for his first Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in 14th place. Las Vegas last December was good to him. He won $163,577 and moved up to fourth place.

That gave him confidence and put him into overdrive for 2016. He is currently third in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association World Standings, less than $2,500 behind the man in second place who just happens to be Jake Wright.

“That momentum from the NFR has been building,” Bradshaw added. “I got a new truck and it seems like every place we’ve gone, one of us has won the rodeo.”

That truck took them to Jackson, Miss., last week where Bradshaw and Jake Wright split the win. Bradshaw’s success there came aboard Prom Night from Three Hills Rodeo. The mare also took him to the pay window here on Saturday afternoon.

He came back Saturday night and watched Jake Wright score 85 points on Calgary Stampede’s Stampede Warrior to move into first place. Then it was Bradshaw’s turn to ride. He got on another horse from Calgary, Tokyo Bubbles and edged into the lead by one point.

There were three other contestants that won over $5,000 in bracket 4. Tooter Silver, from Quitman, Ark., was the high-money man in steer wrestling at $5,132. Former NFR team ropers Dustin Bird from Cut Bank, Mont., and Russell Cardoza from Terrebonne, Ore., also won $5,132.

Sunday’s competition in the AT&T Center will feature the first and second rounds of bracket 5. Action starts at 1 and 7:30 p.m.
