Breuer Dominates Bareback Riding at Fort Worth’s World’s Original Indoor Rodeo®

by Johna Cravens
for the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo

FORT WORTH, Texas (January 20, 2018) — Ty Breuer of Mandan, N.D., has dominated the early competition in bareback riding at the World’s Original Indoor Rodeo® at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo.

Bareback riders are the only rodeo athletes here that compete in three rounds. They ride in consecutive performances with the top 12 overall returning for the championship finals February 3. Breuer made the most of his three attempts and he holds the overall lead and is currently first in all three rounds.

He began with an 85.5-point ride Friday night on J Bar J Rodeo’s Painted Bunny. Breuer nearly matched that score at the 10 a.m. performance Saturday, marking 85 on Andrews Rodeos’ Rags to Riches.

The three-time National Finals Rodeo (NFR) cowboy managed to squeeze in a short visit with children from Hope Kids, a group that provides activities for families of children with a life-threatening condition in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area.

The children attended the morning rodeo, then gathered for burgers and hot dogs at the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame & Museum. Breuer and traveling partners Tanner Aus and Jordan Pelton met with the children and their families at the lunch, then headed back to Will Rogers Coliseum for their third-round competition which began at 2 p.m.

Breuer rode Dakota Rodeo’s Cecil for 81 points and has the overall lead with 241.5 points. While there are 25 regular performances still to come at Fort Worth, that total has historically been enough to qualify for the final championship round, so it is likely that Breuer will be back in Fort Worth to ride for the championship.

Other early overall leaders are five-time NFR saddle bronc rider Cort Scheer; Texas team ropers Tyler Wojciechowski and Ross Ashford and bull rider Jimy Marten. The tie-down roping, steer wrestling and barrel racing are still in the first round of competition.

The World’s Original Indoor Rodeo® continues to celebrate its 100th birthday with performances at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Sunday at Fort Worth’s historic Will Rogers Coliseum.
