Buckin’ the Odds – 30 Years of the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas Documentary Hosted & Narrated By Luke Perry To Air Monday, December 1 on CBS Sports Network

Hour-long program to air tonight at 7 p.m. PT/10 p.m. ET

LAS VEGAS (December 1, 2014) – Buckin’ the Odds – 30 Years of the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, a special one-hour documentary produced to celebrate the impact of the world’s richest and most prestigious rodeo on the Entertainment Capital of the World, will air on CBS Sports Network on Monday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. PT/10 p.m. ET. The program will re-air on Thursday, Dec. 4 at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET.

Buckin’ the Odds will tell the story of how the NFR moved from Oklahoma City, landed in Las Vegas in 1985, grew to prominence and became one of the most iconic and significant special events for the destination. The story will be told in chapters, capturing the unique stories of the rodeo competitors, event organizers and those within the rodeo industry. The program is hosted and narrated by Luke Perry.

Interviewees include Ty Murray, Trevor Brazile, Rich Skelton, Joe Beaver, Billy Etbauer, Ote Berry, Cody Ohl, Charmayne James, Kaycee Feild, NFR General Manager Shawn Davis and PRCA Commissioner Karl Stressman. Las Vegas principals providing insight include Michael Gaughan, Rossi Ralenkotter, Bill Boyd, Jack Binion, Pat Christenson and Bill McBeath.

The program is co-written and produced by Executive Producer Jeff Medders of Geronimo Productions, in association with Las Vegas Events. Kirk Martindale, of RKM Productions, is the show’s co-writer, producer and director.

Sponsors of the program include presenting entitlements from Las Vegas, the Academy of Country Music and PrimeSport, with additional support from Boyd Gaming, The Mirage, MGM Grand, Priefert, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, South Point, Treasure Island and Wrangler.

The Wrangler NFR, known as the richest and most prestigious rodeo in the world, has sold out 280 consecutive performances and attracts the top 15 contestants in bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, barrel racing and bull riding as they compete for a share of the $6.375 million purse. Qualification is based on the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association World Standings.

The Wrangler NFR will kick off Thursday, Dec. 4 and run through Saturday, Dec. 13 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. All performances begin at 6:45 p.m. CBS Sports Network will carry all ten days, with live coverage beginning at 7 p.m. PT/10 p.m. ET.
