Bucking for the Cure Returns to Las Cruces

Championship Bull Riding is honored to be associated with Bucking for the Cure in Las Cruces, NM presented by Las Cruces Comprehensive Rehabilitation and Home Care May 5, 2018 at the Southern New Mexico State Fairgrounds. This marks the 2nd year Larry Barker of Barker Bulls has held the event for an amazing cause benefiting Cowboys for Cancer Research (C4CR).

The devoted community of Las Cruces rallied to honor the memory of Alma Cohorn, team roper Kenneth Cohorn’s wife who succumbed to cancer in 1981. To bring awareness to this deadly disease, a team roping was organized and now The Cowboys for Cancer Research Team Roping is one of the largest in all of New Mexico.

Members of the community, like CBR stock contractor Larry Barker decided he wanted to participate for the cause as well, creating “Bucking for the Cure” to benefit C4CR and this year, he has partnered with CBR to a host a Horizon Series bull riding bringing the world’s most elite professional bull riders to compete.

Thirty-five bull riders from ten states, seven from New Mexico, will be ready to ride this weekend at Bucking for the Cure. CBR World Standings leader Trey Holston and Horizon leader Braden Richardson plan to join locals Joseph McConnel of Bloomfield, NM and Blaise Milligan of Artesia in a two round, action packed performance. Other local riders include Levi Whitley and Justin Neill.

Also in competition are CBR Bull Teams vying for their spot on the Road to Cheyenne. Points for both bovines and bull riding athletes accumulate for the CBR World Finals in late July at Cheyenne Frontier Days.
