Strongman Demonstrations, Crowd Challenges & Kids Strength Challenge: The Strength Edge puts on an exhibition of common strongman lifts and challenges. Experienced competitors will be available to explain, demonstrate and challenge spectators in some of the common disciplines of the sport of Strongman. Bring your kids down before 3 p.m. each day to participate in a strength challenge run by experienced coach and former Alberta’s Strongest Woman competitor Sarah Weigand and Crossfit Most’s Jenn Swagar. Community Park South, 11 a.m.-8:00 p.m.

Character Meet & Greet: Meet the stars of your child’s favorite shows up-close and personal at the BMO Centre Courtyard. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Donatella & Leonardo: 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Shimmer & Shine: 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Daily Agriculture Exhibits Highlight

Heavy Horse Pull Competition (Light Weights) – The Heavy Horse Pull is an exciting, action-packed event featuring true workhorses. The Calgary Stampede Heavy Horse Pull is Canada’s premier pulling competition, with teams arriving from across North America to vie for top honours. The teams will pull more than five times their body weight a distance of 14 feet.

7 p.m. – Agrium Western Event Centre

Ranch Rodeo – A traditional type of rodeo in which teams of cowboys and cowgirls, from different ranches, compete against each other in events based on the tasks commonly performed on a ranch every day.

Veteran Stampede competitor takes Non-Pro and Open-Bride in Working Horse Classic: Whether it’s that ingrained cowgirl humility or she genuinely doesn’t remember, Suzon Schaal can’t tell you how many Calgary Stampede Champion belt buckles she’s won.

Whatever that number may be, it grew by two Thursday afternoon as the veteran Stampede competitor took the Non Pro and Open Bridle classes in the Working Cow Horse Classic held at the Agrium Western Event Centre.

Alberta’s Zeke Thurston riding high with third Calgary Stampede Championship in his sights: Alberta’s Zeke Thurston already has two Calgary Stampede championships, and could be in the running for three after notching a go-round win Thursday in Round 7 action. The Big Valley Saddle Bronc rider actually earned money in two rounds in one day, as he started the afternoon with a reride to complete Round 6. His 84 score there gave him a share of third place and $3000. Then he came back on his Round 7 horse, Super Sox, with an 86 mark. That was good enough for first and another $5500.

GMC Rangeland Derby – Kurt Bensmiller unseats Chanse Vigen in the aggregate: Kurt Bensmiller has been on the hunt for days, and on night seven of the GMC Rangeland Derby he managed to unseat Chanse Vigen for top spot in the aggregate. Bensmiller has won the two World Professional Chuckwagon Association events leading up to the Calgary Stampede, and leads the WPCA tour in in points.
