SALINAS, CA – August 3, 2016 – The California Rodeo Salinas and the Salinas Sports Complex welcome Jim Slaten as the new General Manager starting September 1, 2016. Slaten has been involved with the California Rodeo Association and Salinas Sports Complex for over 30 years. He contributed countless hours to the Maintenance & Construction Committee, served as President of the California Rodeo in 2006 and 2007 and continued to be involved as a Past President and, most recently, Chairman of the Livestock Welfare Committee. In addition to his California Rodeo involvement, Jim served on Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Advisory Council for several years and also serves on the board of the Monterey County Regional Fire District, is a Rancho Visitadores member and is the owner of Monterey Transfer & Storage in Salinas.

“Jim is very knowledgeable about our Rodeo, facilities, events and staff and our Officers and Executive Committee are excited to have him come on board as our General Manager. He is highly respected within our community, our organization and within the rodeo industry,” said President Mike Scarr. Jim is looking forward to the opportunity to produce more family-friendly events in Salinas and to having a positive impact on the local community. He says “Continuing to use local non-profits and local vendors for our events will remain a priority.”

A graduate of Salinas High School and Hartnell Junior College, Jim lives in Chualar with his wife Cindy. They have two daughters and enjoy spending time with their five grandchildren whenever they can. Jim also enjoys team roping and cattle sorting in his free time and he is a proud San Francisco Giants fan.
