Canadian Tanner Byrne Earns First Career PBR BFTS Win in Anaheim

Tanner Byrne went 4-for-4 in Anaheim, California, to win his first Built Ford Tough Series event.
ANAHEIM, Calif. – PBR’s (Professional Bull Riders) Canadian Tanner Byrne captured his first career Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) win during the Anaheim Invitational on Sunday afternoon at Honda Center. More than 25,000 fans attended the three-day event, which was the 19th consecutive year the elite BFTS has visited Southern California.
The 23-year-old Byrne sealed his victory with an 86.5-point effort on Jeff Robinson’s Doc Mosley during the Built Ford Tough Championship Round. He went 4-for-4 on the weekend to earn 570 points toward the PBR world standings and launch himself from 33rd place into the Top 10, landing in sixth. Click here to see Byrne’s winning ride.
Three-time PBR World Finals Champion Robson Palermo finished second in Anaheim, riding three of the four bulls he faced and winning the championship round with an 89.5-point ride on Dream Catcher (Evan Matthews). For the second place finish, he earned 400 world standings points.
Paulo Lima, the only other rider to be perfect on the event, captured third place with 295 world standings points to regain the lead in the PBR world standings.
Using an 88.25-point ride on Mortimer (Julio Moreno Bucking Bulls) to win Round 3, Cooper Davis placed fourth in the event, going 3-for-4 for the weekend. Davis picked up 215 world standings points, while Eduardo Aparecido earned 200 world standings points for his fifth-place finish.
In sixth place, Cody Nance picked up 155 points toward the world standings, and Lachlan Richardson placed seventh with 120 world standings points to round out the Top 7 in the event.
Derek Kolbaba, the 19-year-old PBR rookie sensation who won the 15/15 Bucking Battle on Saturday, led the Anaheim Invitational heading into the championship round, but failed to cover his last bull, tying for ninth place in the end.
Sweet Pro’s Bruiser (D&H Cattle Co./Buck Cattle Co.) won the Salem NationaLease High-Marked Bull award in Anaheim with his career-high 46.25-point score. Bruiser tossed Valdiron de Oliveira in 5.83 seconds during the 15/15 Bucking Battle for his winning out. Click here to see the winning out.
The Anaheim Invitational was the fourth of 26 stops on the 2016 Built Ford Tough Series. The tour will stay on the West Coast next weekend, stopping in Sacramento, California, on Feb. 5-6, for the Sacramento Invitational for one last event at Sleep Train Arena.
