KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Qualifying for his second RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo has been an accomplishment for Athens, La., resident and tie-down roper Randall Carlisle.

Carlisle competed here last year but failed to cash in. This year has been much different for the Southeastern Circuit Finals Champion. He stopped the clock in 7.9 seconds in the first round to win $4,738. He roped again on Saturday night and this time was a little slower at 8.6. That still got him and eighth-place check.

More importantly, Carlisle’s run on Saturday night put him in the overall lead with 16.5 seconds on two head. That added $6,254 to his earnings and so far he has won $11,940. His overall finish also qualified him for Sunday’s semifinals.

The eight contestants in each event who have the best overall scores and times advance to the semifinals. Their previous scores and times are thrown out and they all start even. They will be trying to be among the four best in the semifinals who get to compete again in the finals also held Sunday afternoon. That means that Carlisle is hoping to rope two calves in the Silver Spurs Arena at Osceola Heritage Park and bring the national title home to Louisiana.
