BARRETOS, Brazil – After scoring 90.50 points on Juscelino in the championship round on Sunday night, Luciano de Castro won the 2015 Monster Energy PBR Brazil Finals, PBR Brazil Rookie of the Year and the 2015 PBR Brazil championship.
Castro finished 5-for-5 with 1,410 points. Cláudio Montanha (730.00),Giliard Antônio (660.00), José Donizetti (510.00) and Dener Barbosa (490.00) rounded out the Top 5.
“When I began on PBR Brazil, I just wanted to win Rookie (of the Year), I can’t believe I won the three titles,” Castro said.
Castro’s performance left three-time World Champion Adriano Moraesimpressed.
“I don’t remember of another great bull rider so experienced at 19 years old,” Moraes said. “Luciano is cold. He did not panic and is not intimidated by bulls.”
Castro plans on competing in the United States this year at the BlueDEF Velocity Tour Finals and hopefully the Built Ford Tough World Finals.
“I want to just go to the U.S. and ride the bulls to get used to them,” Castro said. “I plan to stay at least among the Top 10 in Las Vegas”.
Castro concluded that he already has arranged his visa for his first trip to the U.S.
Castro was bold and confident all weekend.
He rode Cheque Quente on Sunday for 72.50 points. Despite being the leader, he accepted his re-ride option on Atrito. He proceeded to ride the bull for 87.75 points.
His most impressive ride came on Juscelino. On the fourth jump, Juscelino tried to toss Castro, but with great technique and form Castro made the 8 second-mark.
He was then lifted into the air and surrounded his friends and family in the arena.
“When I was in the chutes, I got to thinking, ‘I know if I fail now I will lose everything I’ve achieved,’” Castro said. “It was the ride of my life. I did not want to ride Juscelino, but I prayed and managed to stay concentrated for 8 seconds.”
