Cavs Clear the Field to Win Salina CBR Championship Futurity Tour Competition
CBR Salina Showdown at the Tony’s Pizza Events Center
SALINA, Kansas (March 25, 2017) – A group of talented youngsters competed this morning at the CBR’s Championship Futurity Tour competition showcasing young bovine athletes who will in time advance to the Road to Cheyenne and other professional tours. Seven sets of two year old bulls, grouped on teams of three bulls each, performed in the second of a three event series which offers a rare glimpse into the future of rodeo and the professional bull riding tours through these four-legged adolescents.
These talented athletes strutted their stuff while being scored on their athleticism. The judge’s scores were based on each bull’s ability to kick, perform with strength, while maintaining intensity combined with how quickly they turn back after exciting the bucking chute with speed.
The high marked calf in Salina this year was on the winning team of the Cavs who cleared the field of teams by over 7 points. Owned by Duello/D & H Cattle/Buck Cattle Company, the top calf on their team was 33C, a big gray calf sired by the Page’s Fire Show, who marked 89 points as the second bull out for the team and had a rank trip from the right hand delivery chute.
Half a point behind him was team partner 514C Hard and Fast, owned by Glover Cattle, who had a solid trip according to H.D. Page. Also finishing with 88.5 points was the celebrity of the team owned by David Waddell of 444 Bucking Bulls (pictured). 28C Newsom was named after bullfighter Frank Newsom for his honest hard fighting ways. He is sired by 133X High Tensile and has already earned approximately $93,000 in competitive events since his yearling debut as a professional bucking bull. The Cavs team cleared the field by 7.5 points with a total bull score of 266.5 points.
D & H Cattle Company from Ardmore, Oklahoma was also the winner of the season opener in Lufkin last month as well finishing first and second today. The consistency and success of D & H Cattle Company showcases the Page’s breeding program for what it is and has been for many years, one of the industry’s top producers of bovine athletes and dedicated stock contractors.
Placing second was the Warriors team which featured 521C Royal Reel, a small black bull that turned back quickly out of the right hand delivery chute and is owned by Bob and Jeri Adams.
“521C put the best overall trip together, he kicked, spun with intensity and was trying to buck that dummy off the entire time,” said H.D. Page.
Placing third was Cude Bucking Bulls featuring bulls bred, sired, and developed at Benny Cude’s Rocking 7X Ranch in Priddy, Texas. The anchor of his team was a big red bull, 541 Straight Talk, with 86.75 points. Cude’s two teams were all sired by former CBR greats 551 Cude Energy and 138 Headliner.
Since its beginning in 2012, the CBR Championship Futurity Tour (CFT) has produced a competitive two year old futurity tour. The CFT in Salina featured a total payout of $13,125, a pair of Fenoglio boots, and a Hyo Silver trophy buckle to the winner.
The special event series, produced by CBR consists of events held in Lufkin, Texas, Salina, Kansas, and the CFT World Finale held in conjunction with the Conroe Bull Mania in October in Conroe, Texas.
