Cody Nance Wins Ty Murray Invitational in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. –After an action-packed three days in “The Pit” in Albuquerque, Cody Nance (Paris, Tennessee) collected his second PBR (Professional Bull Riders) elite series win of the 2018 season at the 25th PBR: Unleash The Beast, Ty Murray Invitational, presented by Isleta Resort & Casino.

Nance went 4-for-4 over a weekend featuring one of the top bullpens on the 2018 tour and won with an 85.75-point ride on Carrot Top (Jane Clark / Gene Owen.) in the championship round. The Tennessee cowboy earned 637.5 world points in the victory, moving him from No. 6 in the world to No. 3, and collected a paycheck of $35,775.

Nance is now 154.17 points behind world leader Ramon de Lima. The Top-5 riders are separated by a mere 275 points amid a very tight 2018 25th PBR: Unleash the Beast championship race.

“I have a lot of respect for Ty Murray and watched him for years growing up,” said Nance, who also won in Anaheim in early February. “To be able to win his event is such a blessing. Last year, I came up second after Stormy (Wing), and I’m so thankful to finish it off this year.”

Cody Teel (Kountze, Texas) finished second with a 4-for-4 performance, including riding Alligator Arms (TNT Bucking Bulls/ Hart Cattle Co) for 85.25 points in the championship round, For his efforts, the No. 6 rider in the world standings earned 294.16 points toward the world standings and $14,383.33.

Jose Vitor Leme (Ribas do Rio Pardo, Brazil), who entered the weekend at No. 17 in the world standings, secured a third-place finish after going 3-for-4 in the raucous, capacity-crowd Dreamstyle Arena. The 2017 PBR Rookie of the Year masterfully covered a rank Bad Beagle (Phenom Genetics / Rothe) in Sunday’s championship round, receiving the only 90-point ride of the weekend with a score of 91.5. The former semi-professional soccer player in Brazil earned 287.5 points toward the world standings along with $16,675. Leme is now No. 10 in the world.

After climbing to the top of the leaderboard on Saturday night, Brennon Eldred (Sulphur, Oklahoma) went 3-for-4 to finish in fourth place on Sunday. After a Round 2 win, he went on to cover Chocolate Shake (D&H Cattle Company) for 86.75 points in Round 3, but then was launched off 2017 World Champion Bucking Bull SweetPro’s Bruiser (D&H Cattle Co/Buck Cattle Co.) in the championship round. Eldred picked up 245 world points and a $11,830 paycheck.

Rounding out the Top 5 was three-time World Champion Silvano Alves (Pilar do Sul, Brazil), who dominated Catfish John (Dakota Rodeo – Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Miller) during the championship round, taking home 236.66 world points and $6,773.33.

The YETI “Built for the Wild” Bull of the Event was 2017 World Champion Bucking Bull SweetPro’s Bruiser (D&H Cattle Co/Buck Cattle Co.), who exploded from the chute like a pack of dynamite, kicked high over chute level and dispatched Eldred after 4.71 seconds, earning a massive bull score of 47.25.

The Top 35 bull riders in the world will now head to Glendale, Arizona, for the Ak-Chin Invitational presented by Cooper Tires at the Gila River Arena March 23-24.

In other PBR action this weekend, Eli Miller (Statesville, North Carolina) won the PBR Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour (RVT) event at the Neighborhood Ford Store Challenge Saturday night at the Wesbanco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia.

Miller went 2-for-3 in the event. He rode Zacchaeus (Davis Rodeo Ranch/Fogle) for 88 points in Round 1 before covering Order To Go (Jim Bollinger Bucking Bulls) in the championship round for 84.5 points. He earned $6,100 and 120 points towards the world standings and a spot at the Stanley Performance in Action Invitational presented by Cooper Tires in Billings, Montana, April 20-22.

Also, Justin Granger (Tuba City, Arizona) won his first RVT event at the Fresno Invitational Saturday night in front of a record-setting sold-out crowd at the Save Mart Center.

Granger rode Blowing Smoke (Humpz and Hornz / Sis ‘N’ Stan Bucking Bulls) for 88.5 points in Round 1 before covering Fantastic (Humpz and Hornz / Sis ‘N’ Stan Bucking Bulls) in the championship round for 88.5 points. He earned $6,475 and 120 points towards the world standings and a spot at the Columbus Invitational Presented by Cooper Tires in Columbus, Ohio April 28-29.
