Claudio Crisostomo didn’t waste any time showing what he could do on the 2015 Built Ford Tough Series during Round 1 of the Fresno Invitational in Fresno, California, on Saturday night.
Making his first appearance of the 2015 season, Crisostomo covered El Capitan for 86.5 points. The ride allowed Crisostomo to put a frustrating 2014 season behind him, where the Brazilian rider broke his clavicle two different times and finished the season 27th in the world standings.
The ride also gave Crisostomo the win in Round 1 and 100 valuable points toward the world standings.
Crisostomo was followed in the round by Guilherme Marchi, who took second place and 60 world standings points for his 85.75-point ride on Hawaiian Hurricane.
World No. 1 Matt Triplett got off to a strong start in Fresno, finishing third in the round with 85.5 points on the previously-unridden bull The Kid. Triplett earned 50 world standings points to extend his lead in the world standings.
Fabiano Vieira and J.B. Mauney tied for fourth place, with a pair of 84-point rides. Vieira covered Slingshot and Mauney overcame travel difficulties to ride Alex’s Cowboy Monster. Both riders earned 35 points each toward the world standings.
All totaled, there were 17 qualified rides in Round 1 in Fresno on Saturday night. The conclusion of the Fresno Invitational kicks off Sunday at 2 p.m. PT.
