SAN JOSE, Calif. – Cooper Davis (Jasper, Texas) seized the lead in the PBR world standings after winning the San Jose Invitational, presented by Ariat, on Sunday afternoon at the SAP Center.

Davis went 3-for-3, capped by an 89.75-point ride on Beaver Creek Beau (Chad Berger/Clay Struve/PBR Rockbar) in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round to secure the win and 540 world points. Davis is now the No. 1 bull rider in the world standings with one regular-season Built Ford Tough Series event remaining.

Previous world leader Kaique Pacheco (Itatiba, Brazil) is now 167.17 points behind Davis.

Defending World Champion J.B. Mauney (Statesville, North Carolina) continued his recent surge, finishing in second place after his own 3-for-3 performance. Mauney closed his weekend with an 86.5-point trip aboard Lifting Lives (D&H Cattle/Craig Moore) and picked up 380 points toward the world standings.

Mauney, the No. 3 ranked bull rider in the world, trails Davis by 520 points.

Tanner Byrne (Prince Albert, SK, Canada) finished third in San Jose and moved up to 13th in the world standings after earning 280 world points. Byrne also went 3-for-3, including an 84.25-point ride on High Razor (D&H Cattle/Buck Cattle) in the championship round.

37-year-old rookie Wallace de Oliveira (Goiania, Brazil) placed in fourth, also going 3-for-3. Oliveira rode Wiley (Bar3D Bucking Bulls) for 85.75 points in the championship round and picked up 195 world points. He leaves California ranked 12th in the world and trails Jess Lockwood (Volborg, Montana) by 995.83 points in the Rookie of the Year race.

Stetson Lawrence (Williston, North Dakota) rounded out the Top 5 after a 2-for-3 performance. His 85.25-point ride on Sully (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve) won Round 2 and earned him a total of 170 points toward the world standings over the weekend. Lawrence is currently 20th in the world standings.

The 2016 Built Ford Tough Series regular season will come to a close next week as the Top 35 bull riders in the world compete one more time in Tucson, Arizona, for the Cooper Tires Take the Money and Ride, presented by the Ak-Chin Indian Community, Oct. 22-23.

It will be the last chance for riders to solidify their place in the Top 35 of the world standings before the Built Ford Tough World Finals takes over Las Vegas’ brand new T-Mobile Arena Nov. 2-6, meaning everything will be on the line.
