PUEBLO, Colo. – The overall bull riding leaderboard got a bit more crowded at the top after the third day of competition in Go-round 1 at the 2018 National High School Finals Rodeo in Rock Springs, Wyoming.

Performance 4 on Tuesday morning was led by Denton Spiers. The Quesnel, British Columbia, native earned 81 points to slide into third place overall. Spiers managed to hang on during a change of direction right before the buzzer to make the 8 seconds.

“Oh shoot, I just kind of translated from when he went to the right back to the left, just kept riding, went to the front and it all worked out,” Spiers told Janie Johnson on RidePass.

TJ Gray and Kolby Stelly moved into a tie for fourth place overall with 80-point rides.

Coy Pollmeier (79) and Cody Keathley (75) rounded out the Top-5, moving into seventh and 11th place overall, respectively.

In performance 5, Keenan Hayes scored 80 points to tie with Gray and Stelly for fourth place overall. He was followed by Koltin Hevalow (74), Chris Villanueva (71), Luke Sieczkowski (66) and Jesse Hopper (65).

Cole Skender’s 86-point ride on Monday still holds onto the overall lead, while Chris Wilson sits in second with 83 points.

“It’s been pretty fun,” Skender said of his bull riding journey to the NHSFR. “I mean there’s been some ups and downs and stuff like that, but just keep getting on bulls, and when you get into slumps you just got to ride out of them.”
