For The Record: Rodeo de Santa Fe

Since 1953, Rodeo de Santa Fe (N.M.) has played host to some of the biggest names in ProRodeo, but only the best cowboys have left their mark by setting a rodeo record.

The tradition of fast times, high scores and big payouts at Santa Fe continues June 20-23. Each ride has a chance to top the Santa Fe records, so here’s a look at who’s at the top in Santa Fe.

Joe Beaver (pictured above) set the Santa Fe record for most money won in all-around in 2005 with $4,288.

Two bareback riders share the Santa Fe record of 88 points. Royce Ford set the record in 2010 and Clint Cannon matched his record in 2015.

Four steer wrestlers share the Santa Fe record of 3.5 seconds. Randy Barnes and Todd Fox each made 3.5-second runs in 1991. Then in 2008, Troy Orr and Cash Myers matched that record time. Myers went on to set the two-run average record of 7.3 seconds in 2008.

Team ropers Aaron Tsinigine and Richard Durham set the Santa Fe record of 3.8 seconds in 2010. The following year, Jojo LeMond and Marty Becker set the two-run average record in 8.5 seconds.

Saddle bronc rider Cody Wright set the Santa Fe record of 87 points in 2014.

Two tie-down roping records were set in 2008. Fred Whitfield clocked in with a 7.2-second run, and Randall Carlisle set the two-run average record of 15.3 seconds.

Barrel racer Kelly Maben set the Santa Fe record of 16.43 seconds in 2006.

Bull rider Neil Holmes set the Santa Fe record of 93 points in 2010.

Santa Fe’s biggest payout was in 2008 with $172,820.
