Garcia Wins Velocity Tour Event in Wheeling

WHEELING, W.Va. – Carlos Garcia (Hammondsport, New York) earned his first win on the PBR’s (Professional Bull Riders) Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour (RVT) when he came through at the Frontier Communications Classic Saturday night at Wesbanco Arena in front of a near capacity crowd.

Garcia went 2-for-3, winning Round 2 with a score of 86 points aboard Mr. U (Buckin’ B Cattle Co.) before being bucked off in the championship round. Garcia earned 80 points toward the PBR world standings along with $6,475.

Winners of each RVT event in 2017 will be guaranteed at least one opportunity to compete at a PBR Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) regular-season event. Thanks to his victory in Wheeling, Garcia will compete at the Stanley Performance in Action Invitational, presented by Cooper Tires, April 7-9 at Rimrock Arena in Billings, Montana.

Australian Sonny Schafferius (Dysart, Australia) and Ramon Rodrigues tied for second place in Wheeling, netting them both 40 points toward the world standings. Rodrigues scored 84.5 points aboard XD Sports Soul Patch (Soggy Hill Cattle Co.) in Round 2, and took home $3,775 for the weekend. Schafferius covered Frank N Beans (J Bar W Ranch) for 84 points in Round 2, and pocketed $3,475 for the finish.

Fourth place went to Nathan Schaper (Grassy Butte, North Dakota) after he reached 8 seconds on Stranglehold (Creekbend Bucking Bulls) for 83.5 points in Round 2. Schaper earned 20 points toward the world standings along with $1,775.

Alex Marcilio (Macaubal, Brazil) and Brady Oleson (Blackfoot, Idaho) finished in fifth and sixth place respectively. Marcilio earned 15 points toward the world standings and $1,415 while Oleson pocketed 10 world points and $1,735.

Air Marshall (Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls) was the high marked bull of the event after earning a 45-point bull score for his buckoff of Alex Cardozo in the championship round.

An hour-long highlight show of the RVT event in Wheeling will air on PBR.com Wednesday, March 22, visit PBR LIVE to watch all the action from the Velocity Tour event.

The Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour will next head to Fresno, California, for the Fresno Invitational on March 25 at the Save Mart Center.

The 2017 Velocity Tour will culminate with the Velocity Tour Finals at South Point Arena in Las Vegas on Oct. 28-30, leading into the PBR’s 2017 Built Ford Tough World Finals, Nov. 1-5 at T-Mobile Arena.
