Garrett Smith won the first Semi-Final performance in Salt Lake City at the Days of ’47 Cowboy Games & Rodeo.

PUEBLO, Colo. – Garrett Smith and Cody Rodeo Tyler are the first bull riders to punch their tickets to the Gold Medal Round at the Days of ’47 Cowboy Games & Rodeo.

Smith was the final rider to nod his head on Thursday night in Salt Lake City and he made the most of his opportunity knowing a score of any kind would advance him out of the first performance.

The 23-year-old barely hung to ride Mistletoe for 86.5 points to win the first Semi-Final and $3,200.

“Well half the time it is just close your eyes and hang on,” Smith told Anthony Lucia on RidePass. “It is pretty exciting. To get by that bull was pretty exciting. They hadn’t ridden him yet.”

Meanwhile, Tyler converted on his re-ride bull to the tune of 84.5 points and a second-place finish.

The 23-year-old also advances to the Gold Medal Round and took home $2,400.

Thursday night was Tyler’s first PBR event since breaking his left collarbone at Last Cowboy Standing.

There were no other qualified rides in the first Semi-Final performance.

The Days of ’47 Cowboy Games & Rodeo features four Semi-Final performances (July 19-21, July 23) and then one Gold Medal Round (July 24).

The top two finishers from each Semi-Final performance advance to the Gold Medal Round. The final two spots will go to the two highest finishers from any of the four semifinal bull ridings that had failed to qualify.

Fans can watch the Days of ’47, which is a WCRA Rodeo, on RidePass beginning at 10 p.m. ET. CBS Sports Network will also air highlights from the Days of ’47 on July 20 (10 a.m. ET), July 21 (4 p.m. ET), July 22 (9:30 a.m. ET), July 24 (11:30 a.m. ET) and July 25 (7 p.m. ET).

CBS national television will air “B&W Trailer Hitches Days of ’47” on July 29 at 1 p.m. ET.

The winner of the bull riding gold medal will also earn 120 world points and $50,000. Each victor of the rodeo disciplines automatically qualifies for the next three WCRA $1 million rodeos.
