Gay Wins Hampton PBR BlueDEF Velocity Tour Event

PUEBLO, Colo. – Gage Gay (Staley, North Carolina) has earned his way back to the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) with his victory in Hampton, Virginia, at the BlueDEF Velocity Tour (BDVT). Gay covered both of his bulls, winning Round 1 en route to his first place finish at Hampton Coliseum on March 7.

Gay earned 80 points towards the PBR world standings for the win and was one of three riders to go perfect on the weekend.

The victory also earned Gay a spot in the upcoming PBR Built Ford Tough Series Ty Murray Invitational presented by Sandia Resort and Casino, taking place next weekend, March 20-22, at WisePies Arena aka The Pit in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Winners of each 2015 BDVT event will be guaranteed a minimum of one opportunity to compete at a Built Ford Tough Series regular season event in an attempt to win enough points to rank among the Top 35 and earn a spot on the elite tour.

Gay’s ride aboard Hou Hou (Davis Rodeo Ranch) in Round 1 earned him the early lead in the event as he finished with 172.50 points in the average and took home $7,596.38.

Cody Tyler White (Talala, Oklahoma) finished in second place with 168 points in the average and $5,093.32. He earned 50 points towards the PBR world standings. Carlos Garcia (Hammondsport, N.Y.) captured third place with 160.5 points in the average and $2,957.94. He earned 30 points towards the PBR world standings.

Eric Lee (Adrian, Michigan), Keith Miller (Milroy, Indiana) and Gay rounded out the Top-6. Per TPD rules, a bull rider may enter an event as many times as he chooses. Some riders have been known to enter two, or even three times. With his double entries Gay earned a total of 90 points towards the world standings.

In Jacksonville, Florida, at the Veterans Memorial Arena on March 7 at the second BDVT event of the weekend, Jorge Valdiviezo (Chihuahua, Mexico) and Mason Lowe (Exeter, Missouri) each earned a share of the victory.

The pair each had qualified rides worth 89.5 points as they earned 65 PBR world standings points apiece along with $5,625.00.

Cody Brown (Alexandria, Virginia), Wallace Vieira de Oliveira (Goiania, Brazil), Robson Aragao (Aracaju Sergipe, Brazil) and Kolt Donaldson (Idabel, Oklahoma) rounded out the Top-5.
