Gay Wins Round 1 in Deadwood, South Dakota

DEADWOOD, S.D. – Gage Gay took Round 1 of the Deadwood PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour (RVT) event Friday night at the Deadwood Event Complex.

Gay heads into Saturday leading the event average after an 88.5-point ride on Americana (Dakota Rodeo – Chad Berger/Hruby/Kainz). Gay’s last event was nearly a month ago after finishing in sixth place at The Last Cowboy Standing at Helldorado Days in Las Vegas. He is currently ranked No. 26 in the world standings.

Tyler Harr (Hazen, Arkensas), Wallace Vieira de Oliveira (Goiania, Brazil) and Nathan Burtenshaw (Coonamble, Australia) are also in the mix for a potential Velocity Tour victory this weekend following qualified rides in Round 1.

Harr and Oliveira tied for second place in Round 1 after recording matching 87-point rides. Harr conquered Copper Star (Dakota Rodeo / Chad Berger / Lacey Scott) while Oliveira rode Redneck (Dakota Rodeo / Chad Berger / Lacey Scott).

Burtenshaw claimed fourth place in Round 1 after an 86-point ride on Strong Heart (Dakota Rodeo / Chad Berger / Clay Struve / H&C Bucking Bulls).

Skeeter Kingsolver (McKlouth, Kansas) rounded out the Top 5 Friday after riding Dirty Deeds (Dakota Rodeo / Chad Berger / Clay Struve) for 84.5 points.

Jess Lockwood (Volborg, Montana), the No. 5-ranked rider in the world, turned in an 82-point ride on Flat Top Pete (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Heald Pro Bulls) in Round 1 and is in eighth place in the event average heading into Saturday.

Round 2 begins Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. MT.

The 2017 Velocity Tour will culminate with the Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour Finals at South Point Arena in Las Vegas on Oct. 28-30, leading into the PBR’s Built Ford Tough World Finals, Nov. 1-5 at T-Mobile Arena.
