Hedeman Taps Mexican Bull Rider to Compete at the El Paso Coliseum

Casa Ford Tuff Hedeman Championship Bull Riding presented by Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino

EL PASO, Texas – (February 18, 2017) – Four time World Champion Bull Rider and Pro Rodeo Hall of Famer, Tuff Hedeman, announced this week he has invited a highly decorated bull riding champion from Mexico to compete in the 2017 Casa Ford Tuff Hedeman Championship Bull Riding presented by Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino.

Francisco Garcia, a two time (2015, 2016) Campeon Nacional Champion, has been a professional bull rider for eleven years and won numerous titles including three time Coahuila State Champion and Chihuahua Epic Battle Champion. In addition to riding successfully in Mexico, he has competed on the Professional Bull Riders Inc. tour and was a finalist in the PRCA’s Ram Circuit Finals in 2016.

The 6’2, 175 pound thirty year old bull rider from Leon, Mexico will join the number one bull rider in the world, Sage Kimzey, and the top twenty-four bull riders on the dirt inside the El Paso County coliseum for the three round tournament style bull riding set to begin at 8 pm on Saturday night. As of 9 am this morning there are less than 500 tickets available for the annual bucking bull blowout that sells out each year at the El Paso Coliseum

The number two rider in the CBR, Eli Vastbinder, nicknamed Mr. Consistency, signed autographs today around town and will be focused tomorrow on gaining additional scores to keep pace with Kimzey who remains at the top of the World Standings leaderboard.

Vastbinder who rode four of five bulls at the 2016 CBR World Finals continued that uniformity on the 2017 tour where he has posted 14 scores on 19 attempts and was the Laughlin CBR event champion.

Mickey Andrews is also in town to defend his 2016 El Paso CBR title against seven Wrangler National Finals Rodeo contestants and two eighteen year old rookies that have each won a CBR event in 2017.

Eighteen year old Cody Jesus, the Navajo Champion Bull Rider from Sawmill, Arizona, is making his fifth tour appearance tour after winning the average title in Rio Rancho in January which qualified him for the televised tour. The following week Jesus boarded an airplane for the first time and competed in the CBR’s Eldorado Casino Tuff Hedeman CBR making the final four shoot out round after posting an 88.5 and 89 in rounds one and two. Jesus competed in Window Rock and Laughlin early in the tour year on special invitation from Hedeman.

Also on the bucking chutes will be the number three rider in the CBR World Standings, high school senior Boudreaux Campbell from Crockett, Texas, who has qualified for six of the ten shoot out rounds on this year’s Road to Cheyenne and been in second or third in the CBR World Standings since the beginning of 2017.

Jeff Askey, a Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier sits in the fourth position of CBR standings after winning his second event on tour in Jackson, Tennessee early in January. Askey will be at Casa Ford on Montana signing autographs with WNFR qualifier Cody Rostockyj from 1 pm to 3 pm on Saturday, Feb., 18.

The list of riders and former World Champions reads like a list of Who’s Who of cowboy athletes including five time World Champion Sage Kimzey, ERA World Champion Chandler Bownds, National Finals Rodeo qualifiers, Jacob O’Mara, Cody Rostockyj, Jeff Askey, Rorey Maier and Tim Bingham.

Hedeman’s event features a two hour bull riding that has captivated and entertained local fans for twelve years. The Casa Ford Tuff Hedeman Championship Bull Riding features a field of 24 elite bull riders in a three round tournament style event ending in a final four Shoot Out round worth $30,000 to the cowboys and $45,000 to the bulls. The three round tournament style format appeals to fans as they watch the riders challenge as many as three bulls in one performance.

Come out early and enjoy the CBR Tailgate party and sounds from Mainstreet band and D.J. Primo beginning at 5 pm. Doors open at 6:30 and the action starts at 8 pm.
