Heffernan Wins Velocity Tour Wichita Classic

WICHITA, Kan. – Australian rider, Cody Heffernan (Singleton, Australia), won his first event of the season at the PBR’s (Professional Bull Riders) Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour (RVT) Wichita Classic Saturday night at Intrust Bank Arena.

Heffernan took the buckle after scoring 85 points aboard Street Outlaw (Jared Allen’s Pro Bull Team) in Round 1, followed by an 87.5-point ride on Hard Candy (Gilbert/D&H Cattle Co.) in the championship round. Heffernan earned 80 points toward the world standings and $6,890.

Heffernan will go head-to-head with past RVT event winners Joao Ricardo Vieira, Michael Lane and Skeeter Kinsolver at Last Cowboy Standing at Helldorado Days in Las Vegas, Nevada, May 12-13.

Kurt Shephard (Atherton, Australia) solidified the second-place slot after covering Judgement Day (Ehlers / Scanson.) in Round 1 for 83 points, and Flyin’ Right (Floyd Bucking Bulls) in Round 2 for 82 points. Shephard was the only other rider to last both rounds, and is walking away from the weekend with 50 points toward the world standings and $4,890.00.

Third place was secured by Marco Antonio Eguchi (Poa, Brazil), who snatched 30 points toward the world standings and $3,340. Eguchi was the Round 1 winner after riding Bushwhacked (Ohl/Herb/McDowell/Comozzi) for 86.5 points, but was later bucked off by Blue (01 Cattle Co.) in the championship round. Eguchi earned $3,340.00 and 30 points toward the world standings.

Nathan Schaper ranked fourth after riding for 86 points in Round 1 on Pearl Done It (Floyd Bucking Bulls) before eventually bucking off Big Dirty (Daultyn Dunn/01 Cattle Co.) in Round 2. Schaper will be taking home a check for $2,340 and 20 points toward the world standings.

Brennon Eldred (Sulphur, Oklahoma) and Joe Johnson tied for fifth, each earning $1,040 and 12.5 points toward the world s­tandings. Eldred rode Death Row (Cody Ohl & Robert & Angel Myers) in Round 1 before eventually bucking off Wonder Flyer (D&H Cattle Co. / Flinn) in the championship round. Johnson covered In Like Flynn (Owens / Flinn) for 85 points in Round 1 before being thrown off by Total Feed (Gold Buckle Ranch) in the championship round.

American Bucking Bull Inc. (ABBI) paid out over $22,000 to their Top 10 placing Classic bulls competing tonight. The Big Tex Classic Champion was Tan Lines (Mike Oakes) who scored 89.33 points to beat out all the other 3 and 4-year-old Classic bulls for first place and $6,050. In second with an 88.75 was New Jack (Martinez Bucking Bulls) who earned $3,410. With an 87.67 for third was Wild Sky’s (Wyatt/Owens) who took home $2,590. Splitting fourth were Rocket Man (Chad Berger) and 20A High Test (D&H), whose scores of 87.5 earned each bull just under $2,000. The Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour will next head to Uvalde, Texas, for the Cactus Jack PBR Bull Riding May 5-6.

The 2017 Velocity Tour will culminate with the Velocity Tour Finals at South Point Arena in Las Vegas on Oct. 28-30, leading into the PBR’s Built Ford Tough World Finals, Nov. 1-5 at T-Mobile Arena.
