Holmes Wins Round 2 of BlueDEF Finals

LAS VEGAS – Neil Holmes threw down a monster 88-points to win Round 2 on Sunday night at South Point Arena during the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) BlueDEF Tour (BDT) Finals.

Holmes earned 80 points with the round win as the Houston cowboy notched his highest score since April. He covered Gambini (Bard 3D Bucking Bulls) early in section three. Holmes earned $4,000 on the night.

Zane Cook (Fort Gibson, Oklahoma) finished in second place when he rode Sic’ Em On A Chicken (Broken Arrow/HolthusenBucking Bulls) for 86 points. Cook earned 50 points towards the world standings as well as $3,000.

Derek Kolbaba (Walla Walla, Washington), the 16th ranked bull rider in the world, earned 30 PBR World Standings points with his third place finish. Kolbaba rode for the first time since Pendleton, Oregon, in September when he rode Livin’ Large (Martinez Bucking Bulls, LLC-Edward Martinez) for 85.5 points as he took home $2,000.

Two-time and reigning PRCA Champion Sage Kimzey (Strong City, Oklahoma) and Australian champ Cody Heffernan (Singleton, Australia) tied for fourth place as each tallied 85 points. Kimzey rode Scary Harry(Carr Pro Rodeo/Classic Pro Rodeo) while Heffernan rode Red Fury (Broken Arrow Bucking Bulls). Each rider earned 17.5 points towards the world standings along with $500.

Brady Sims (Holt, Missouri) earned 10 points towards the world standings when he covered OXX (Burleson/Barnett) for 84 points.

Dener Barbosa (Paulo de Faria, Brazil) has been the only man to ride two so far as he is the event leader after covering Clifford (Julio Moreno Bucking Bulls) for 51 points on Sunday.

After the second night of Wildcard Classic and Derby competition, ABBI crowned two champions on Sunday. The 3-year-old winning the Derby with an 88.67 was Up and In (Riley/Beckett/Teague/Lackey/Lester). In second with 87.67 was Zorro the Torro (Hudgins Bucking Bulls). There was a three-way split for third between Opus (McCoy Ranches/Sandalwood Ranch), Call The Law (K-C/Cord McCoy) and Bezerk (Rockin R Bucking Bulls).

Up and In is co-owned by MLB pitcher Jon Lester, who helped the Chicago Cubs avoid elimination Sunday night in Game 5 of the World Series.

The Wildcard Classic winner T71 Air Marshall (D&H) had a score of 88.5. In second was Hustle Man (Henry Mladenka/Fred Robinson/Bridges & Smith/4G) with an 88; third was 206 Burn It Down (Flying High Rodeo/Rockin T Ranch) with an 87.83. In fourth was Z32 Cracker Breaker (D&H/Buck) with 87.67 and fifth was Flat Top Pete (Chad Berger) with an 87. The Top-5 have the opportunity to advance to the PBR World Finals Classic Round pending Director of PBR Livestock, Cody Lambert’s approval.

The last round of the BlueDEF Finals will be held at 7:00 p.m. PT on Monday evening with Round 3 and the championship round. Tomorrow’s competition will decide which five riders will advance to the PBR Finals which begin on Wednesday, Nov. 2 up the street at T-Mobile Arena.
