Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Junior Market Steer Champions Selected

HOUSTON LIVESTOCK SHOW AND RODEO™ JUNIOR MARKET STEER CHAMPIONS SELECTED

The crowd roared as the 2019 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Grand and Reserve Champion Junior Market Steers were selected during the RODEOHOUSTON® Wild Card Round inside NRG Stadium, Friday, March 15.

JUNIOR MARKET STEER GRAND CHAMPION

Lillyan Digby, 18, from Hermleigh, Texas, exhibited the Grand Champion Junior Market Steer. A member of Scurry County 4-H, the high school senior said this is her last and best show. She selected her Charolais steer, Hank, almost a year ago and said the entire journey has been amazing.

“This win means everything,” Lillyan said. “It brings all the family together.”

Upon graduation, Lillyan said she would like to go to college to be a photographer, and that showing livestock has prepared her for her future.

JUNIOR MARKET STEER RESERVE GRAND CHAMPION

The Reserve Grand Champion Junior Market Steer was exhibited by Wise County 4-H member, Ethan Drager. The 15-year-old sophomore said showing cattle is all he has wanted to do, and he was beyond excited to walk out into the champion drive in NRG Stadium with his steer, Ranger.

“It feels awesome,” Ethan said. “I did not expect this at all; that is what makes it so special.”

Ethan said he began showing steers because he wanted to be just like his dad, Eric Drager, who also showed as a child.

Exhibitors will sell their steers at the Junior Market Steer Auction, Saturday, March 16, at 11 a.m. The auction is open to the public and will be held in the NRG Arena Sales Pavilion.
