Jarrett Shines at All American ProRodeo Finals
WACO, TEXAS – Ryan Jarrett has been to the top of the PRCA mountain.
Back in 2005, the veteran cowboy won the all-around world championship.
Fast-forward to the present and Jarrett is still going strong.
Jarrett clocked a 7.4-second time to win second round of Bracket III Friday night at the All American ProRodeo Finals at the Extraco Events Center.
“I had a really good calf, I saw him go (Thursday night) and I was pretty excited to have him,” said Jarrett, 33. “My horse worked well and I had a great run.”
Jarrett’s lightning-fast effort wasn’t far off the All American ProRodeo Finals record of 7.1 seconds set by Shane Hanchey in 2015. Jarrett also was solid in the first round of Bracket III Thursday as he placed second with an 8.0-second run.
The top three finishers in Brackets I, II and III advanced to the 9-man/9 teams for team ropers semifinals at 7 p.m. (CT) Saturday. The top four placers in the semifinal round move on to the championship round.
All money won at the 12 circuit finals rodeos, All American ProRodeo Finals and the RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo – per PRCA bylaws – count toward the 2018 WEATHER GUARD® PRCA World Standings.
“It’s always good to win no matter what rodeo you’re competing at,” Jarrett said. “With the All American Pro Rodeo Finals money counting toward (the world standings) again it will dang sure make rodeoing this summer a little easier.”
Not only was Jarrett winning Friday, he was tuning up for the upcoming Wrangler National Finals Rodeo presented by Polaris RANGER, Dec. 7-16 in Las Vegas.
Jarrett is making his 10th trip to the WNFR in tie-down roping (2005-06, 2009-13, 2015-2017) and 11th overall as he qualified for the Finals in steer wrestling in 2005.
Jarrett finished eighth in the 2017 regular-season tie-down roping WEATHER GUARD® PRCA World Standings with $96,056.
“This is good boost as I get ready for Las Vegas, and there’s nothing better than to get a win like this,” Jarrett said. “I keep doing this because rodeo is in my blood.”
At the All American ProRodeo Finals, Jarrett is riding Snoopy, a 7-year-old horse he trained.
“He’s really easy to rope on,” said Jarrett, who is tentatively planning on taking Snoopy to Las Vegas. “(Saturday) I’m going to see what kind of calf I have and rope how I need to rope. I ‘m dang sure excited to see what I can do.”
Jarrett is no stranger to success at the All American ProRodeo Finals. In 2009, the Summerville, Ga., cowboy won the tie-down roping title.
It’s worth noting barrel racer Tiany Schuster won the round Friday in an All American ProRodeo Finals record time of 15.66 seconds. The old record was 15.72 seconds established by Mary Walker in 2012.
