Jason Malone Named 2014 PBR Touring Pro Division Winner

PUEBLO, Colo. – Despite not competing in the Professional Bull Rider’s Touring Pro Division Finals in Denver on Jan. 12-14, Jason Malone (Pleasanton, Texas) was still able to capture the 2014 TPD overall title. Malone finished the Touring Pro season with a total of 2,213.88 points.

It was Cooper Davis (Wharton, Texas) who went 3-for-3 at the three-day event that captured the event title, narrowly edging defending PBR World Champion Silvano Alves (Pilar do Sul, Brazil).

Davis posted ride scores of 79.5, 85 and 89 for a total of 253.5 points as Alves put up ride scores of 81.5, 83.5 and 86 for 251.0. With the win, Davis earned 110 world standings points while Alves added 65 points to his world standings totals.

Alves needed to just score higher than Davis’ 89 points in the championship round, and after Davis had covered his bull one rider ahead of Alves, the No. 1 rider in the world knew what he needed to do. For the second time in his career, Alves climbed aboard Off the Hook (Flying S-Samford) and was looking for his first ride on the black and white bull. It was Alves’ worst ride of the event as he went sideways quickly, and despite righting himself he earned a score of 86, giving the victory to Davis.

“I enjoyed watching him ride but it was a good feeling when I looked up and saw he didn’t score enough,” Davis said.

Davis and Alves, along with Cody Nance (Paris, Tennessee) were the only riders to go a perfect 3-for-3 as Nance racked up scores of 72, 79.5 and 87 for a total of 238.5. Nance’s best score of the event came during the championship round aboard Margy Time (D&H Cattle Co.), as he rode the bull for the first time in the bovine’s three year career.

Nance picked up 45 world standings points as he finished in third place. Reese Cates (El Dorado, Arkansas) continued to put up ride scores as he tallied a total of 168, earning 20 world points in fourth place. Fifth place wasTanner Byrne (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan) with 30 points while Carlos Garcia (Hammondsport, New York) finished in sixth place with a total of 15 world points.
