Jenkins Wins TPD Event that Raises Scholarship Money

PUEBLO, Colo. ― Professional Bull Riders veteran L.J. Jenkins (Porum, Okla.) was one of four riders to cover both of his bulls during the two-day Touring Pro Division Cody Ohl Steak Cook-Off Chute Out in Hico, Texas, this past weekend. The event raised more than $3,000 to support a local family in their moment of need and $12,000 for scholarships for 12 graduating seniors from Hico High School. Ohl makes his home in Hico.

Jenkins, currently ranked No. 12 in the PBR world standings, picked up 86.5 points in the long go and was fourth heading into the short go. His 88-point effort in the short go was enough for the win and $4,324.16. Jenkins totaled 174.5 points for the event.

Dave Mason (Bulahdelah, Australia) picked up 168.5 total points with an 85-point score in the long round and 83.5 points in the short go to place second, earning $2,543.63. Bryan Titman (Houston) was third with 167.5 points for $1,744.20. Sterling Furr (Boerne, Texas) rounded out the Top-4 with 162 points and $1,889.55.

Mason Lowe (Exeter, Mo.) found success at the Prescott Valley Mile High TPD event in Arizona with an 82-point ride in Round 1 and 89.5 points in the championship round for the win. Lowe took home $4,566.20 on a total of 171.5 points. Scottie Knapp (Albuquerque, N. M.) finished second with 87 points for $2,716.00, while Markus Mariluch (Elko, Nev.) landed in third with a score of 86.5 points and $1,213.80.

At the American Bucking Bulls Pueblo Invitational in Pueblo, Colorado, home of the PBR, Cody Schneider (Amarillo, Texas) overcame a fourth-place finish in Round 1 to take the victory at the two-day event. Schneider rode for 74 points in the long go, but bounced back with 76.5 points in the short go for the win and $1,828.32 with 150.5 points overall. Schneider was the only rider to go 2-for-2.

Brant Atwood (Decatur, Texas) was the top rider in the long go with 86.5 points, but failed to cover his bull in the short go, earning $1,331.49 for second place. Skyler Sims (Peculiar, Mo.) finished third with 85 points in the short go, earning $834.67.

Several current BFTS riders competed in Pala, California, on Friday and Saturday with Stetson Lawrence (Trenton, N. D.) earning the top spot at the TPD event, bouncing back from a fourth-place ride in the long go for 176.0 points overall to win $9,193.60. He was the only rider to notch a 90-point score at the event. Jay Miller (Liberty, S.C.) captured second place and $7,397.97 with 172.5 points, and Tyler Harr (Slovak, Ark.) rode for 166 points and third place, taking home $3,663.07 in earnings.

Next on the PBR’s TPD schedule will be the Cactus Jack Touring Pro Division in Uvalde, Texas, on May 23-24. Several BFTS riders, including J.W. Harris (May, Texas), Sean Willingham (Summerville, Ga.) and Gage Gay (Staley, N. C.) are scheduled to compete during the two-day event at the Uvalde County Fairplex.
