Kolbaba and Vieira Win Round 1 in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – In front of a sold-out raucous crowd, Derek Kolbaba (Walla Walla, Washington) and Fabiano Vieira (Perola, Brazil) split the win in Round 1 of the PBR’s (Professional Bull Riders) home event, Rumble in the Rockies at Broadmoor World Arena on Saturday night.

Kolbaba rode Hot Habanero (Talbert Bucking Bulls) for 87.5 points while Vieira duplicated the score aboard Sir Mix A Lot (Windy Valley Buckers). The Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) round win was Kolbaba’s sixth of the season and Vieira’s third.

Kobaba’s victory in Colorado comes fresh off his third event win of the season at last weekend’s Buck Off the Island in Uniondale, N.Y. For Vieira this weekend marks his first event back since breaking his jaw and dislocating his shoulder in Thackerville on Sept. 3. The pair each earned 80 points along with $3,165.

Ranked No.5 in the world, Kolbaba currently trails No.1 Eduardo Aparecido (Gouvelandia, Brazil) by 745 PBR World Points heading into Championship Sunday.

Aparecido finished third after riding Who Dey (Flying V Bucking Bulls) to 86.25 points. He added 50 world points and earned $2,000.

Australian Sonny Schafferius (Dysart) held the lead through most of the round, finishing in fourth place on Saturday night. Schafferius covered American Gangster (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve) for 86 points on his way to 40 world points and $1,300.

Shane Proctor (Grand Coulee, Washington) came in fifth after turning in an 85.75-point trip aboard Dirty Little Secret (Flying V Bucking Bulls). The ride snapped a seven out buckoff streak, netting 30 world points and $850.

Brennon Eldred (Sulphur, Oklahoma) and Alex Marcilio (Macaubaul, Brazil) finished in sixth and seventh places, respectively. Eldred turned in an 85.5-point ride aboard Tie One On (Fihauf Cattle Co.) to earn 15 world points and $600. Marcilio reached 8 seconds aboard Beast of Burden (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/H&C Bucking Bulls) to earn 5 world points and $450.

The Top 35 bull riders in the world will return to Broadmoor World Arena for Championship Sunday tomorrow starting at 1:45 p.m. Each rider will face one more bull in Round 2 before the Top 15 move on to the Built Ford Tough Championship Round where a winner will be crowned.
