Kolbaba Defends Crown in Pendleton

PENDLETON, Or. – 20-year-old Derek Kolbaba from nearby Walla Walla, Washington, defended his crown on Tuesday night in front a hometown crowd at the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) BlueDEF Tour (BDT) event at the Pendleton Roundup.

Kolbaba defended his 2015 title after a 2-for-2 performance on the way to a repeat Banner Bank Pendleton PBR Classic crown.

Kolbaba earned 80 points toward the PBR world standings along with a paycheck of $10,665.31. He tallied rides of 88.5 and 87 points.

In second place was Keyshawn Whitehorse (The Woodlands, Texas) who also went two-for-two with rides of 84.50 and 89 points to earn 50 world standings points and $7,577.15.

Emilio Resende (Santa Helena, Brazil) took third place after he tallied ride scores of 84.5 and 88 points apiece. He earned 30 world standings points and took home $4,871.02.

Marco Eguchi (Sao Paulo, Brazil) was the fourth place finisher after he turned in scores of 84 and 86.5 points. He picked up 20 points toward the world standings along with $2,467.35 for his performance.

Montana Barlow (Eden, Idaho) and Jake Gowdy (Bristow, Oklahoma) finished in fifth and sixth, respectively. The pair each covered their bulls in the event. Barlow earned 15 world points and $1,432.65 while Gowdy earned 10 world points along with a paycheck of $1,130.20.

Pendleton was the 27th event of the 2016 BlueDEF Tour. The season will culminate with the 2016 BlueDEF Finals taking place Oct. 29-31 at South Point Arena in Las Vegas. The 2016 BlueDEF Champion, the rider who earns the most world points throughout the 2016 BDT season including the BlueDEF Finals, will receive $50,000 and qualify to compete at the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals Nov. 2-6 down the strip at T-Mobile Arena.

The BlueDEF Tour will next make a stop in Allentown, Pennsylvania on Sept. 16-17 at the PPL Center.
