Kolbaba Victorious in PBR Event at Pendleton Roundup

PUEBLO, Colo. – Walla Walla, Washington, native Derek Kolbaba posted the highest score of the Pendleton Roundup event en route to his first PBR (Professional Bull Riders) BlueDEF Velocity Tour (BDVT) win on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 14-15.

Kolbaba racked up 88.5 points aboard RMEF Team Elk (Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls) in the championship round. With his combined score of 87.5 points on Four Star Rodeo’s Speculation in Round 1, Kolbaba finished with 176 total points to earn $11,282.35 and 80 points toward the PBR world standings.

Winners of each 2015 BDVT will be guaranteed a minimum of one opportunity to compete at a Built Ford Tough Series regular-season event in an attempt to win enough points to rank among the Top 35 and earn a spot on the elite tour. Thanks to the win in Pendleton, Kolbaba will compete at the Allentown Invitational presented by Cooper Tires in Allentown, Pennsylvania, on Sept. 25-26.

Kolbaba’s ride in the championship round helped him bump Jay Miller (Liberty, South Carolina) out of the top spot, as Miller finished in second place with 172 points. Miller rode for 86 points in Round 1 and the championship round as he took home $5,658.75 and earned 50 world standings points.

Miller overtook the top spot from Thor Hoefer in the championship round. Hoefer, finished in third with ride scores of 84.5 and 87 points. He earned $3,725.64 and 30 world standings points. With his championship round bull, Hoefer had the opportunity to add $1,000 to his pocket by riding the selected bounty bull. The Priest River, Idaho, native went the 8 seconds needed and added the money to his total.

Monday’s leader in the event, Dakota Louis (Browning, Montana) finished in a tie with Chase Robbins (Marsing, Idaho) for fourth place with a two-ride score of 171 points (85.5  and 85.5) each.
