BISMARCK, N.D. – Derek Kolbaba (Walla Walla, Washington) earned the buckle on night one of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour (RVT) Dakota Community Bank PBR Bull Riding Challenge Friday night at the Bismarck Civic Center.

It was Kolbaba’s second PBR victory in a row after winning the PBR Monster Energy Canada Tour International Major in Quebec City, Quebec, on June 2.

Kolbaba, the No. 3 ranked bull rider in the world, went 2-for-2 Friday night. He started his evening with an 88-point ride on American Gangster (Dakota Rodeo / Chad Berger / Clay Struve) in Round 1 before sealing the deal with an 89-point ride on BC Circular Insanity (Dakota Rodeo / Chad Berger / Clay Struve / H&C Bucking Bulls) in the championship round.

Following Round 1, two-time PBR World Champion J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, North Carolina) took on Pearl Harbor (Dakota Rodeo / Chad Berger / Clay Struve / H&C Bucking Bulls), the No. 1 ranked bull, in a special $50,000 challenge. Pearl Harbor successfully tossed Mauney in 4.91 seconds, denying him the cash prize. Mauney will next head to Vinita, Oklahoma, where he will compete against reigning PBR World Champion Cooper Davis in a special $25,000 showdown following the Hometown Dodge Challenger PBR Touring Pro Division event Saturday night.

Fabiano Vieira (Perola, Brazil) finished in second place on night one after his own 2-for-2 performance. Vieira covered Element79 (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Heald Pro Bulls) for 86 points in Round 1, then closed with and 88.5-point trip aboard Red Bandana (Dakota Rodeo / Chad Berger / Clay Struve / Chase Bass) in the championship round.

Lachlan Richardson (Gresford, Australia) finished in third place. The Australian also went 2-for-2 Friday night, beginning with an 81-point ride on Chloe’s Pet (Berger Bucking Bulls) in Round 1. He followed that up with a massive 90.5-point effort on Moleek (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Heald Pro Bulls) to tie for the win in the championship round.

Brennon Eldred (Sulphur, Oklahoma) ended the night in fourth place. Eldred was bucked off in Round 1 by Legacy (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Heald Pro Bulls) but made up for it with his own 90.5-point ride on Deep Water (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Heald Pro Bulls) in the championship round.

Parker Breding rounded out the Top 5 Friday. Breding earned 87.5 points on Moldy (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Cymbaluk Cattle Co.) in Round 1 before eventually falling against Modified Clyde (Dakota Rodeo – Chad Berger / Clay Struve / Ken Barnhard) in the championship round.

Smooth Operator ( Dakota Rodeo / Chad Berger / H&C Bucking Bulls) and Dusty’s Revenge (Dakota Rodeo / Chad Berger / Clay Struve / H&C Bucking Bulls) tied for the high-marked bull of the night after turning in matching 45.5-point bull scores.

Night two of the Dakota Community Bank PBR Bull Riding Challenge will begin Saturday at 7:30 p.m. CT and will be streamed on PBR LIVE and the PBR LIVE app.

The 2017 Velocity Tour will culminate with the Velocity Tour Finals at South Point Arena in Las Vegas on Oct. 28-30, leading into the PBR’s Built Ford Tough World Finals, Nov. 1-5 at T-Mobile Arena.
