Aggregate Winner Awarded – Kurt Bensmiller Captures Richard Cosgrave Memorial Award at GMC Rangeland Derby

After eight days of racing the Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby aggregate winner has been named. Kurt Bensmiller has captured the Richard Cosgrave Memorial Award – for the second year running. The defending champion, Bensmiller produced an aggregate total of 9:38.14, good enough for nearly six seconds of separation in the 36-man field.

After the opening day, he stood fifth in the aggregate standings of the GMC Rangeland Derby. After two days, he was second. By the third, he was in top spot, and never left. For the win, Bensmiller recieves a 2018 GMC Sierra 3500HD SLT Crew Cab 4×4 and a spot in the semi finals. The rest of the top eight in the aggregate standings – and also semi-finalists – are: Mark Sutherland, Jason Glass,Vern Nolin, Mike Vigen (Chanse Vigen driving) Rick Fraser, who will be retiring from racing on Sunday, Logan Gorst and Evan Salmond.

The fastest four outfits from Saturday night’s semifinal heats will advance to the Sunday Showdown Final Heat, which is worth $100,000 to the victor.

Jason Glass had the fastest heat of the night on Friday the 13th. He was followed by Kurt Bensmiller, BJ Carey, Vern Nolin and Rick Fraser.
