Larsen Sets Rodeo Record in Canby (Ore.)

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Records are made to be broken, and that’s exactly what bareback rider Orin Larsen did Aug. 15 at the Canby (Ore.) Rodeo.

Larsen had an 89-point ride on Calgary Stampede’s Zulu Warrior, Aug.15, to set the rodeo record.
“I really honestly don’t know how to react because I don’t remember if I have ever broken a rodeo record, but this is cool,” Larsen said.

The previous bareback riding record at the Canby (Ore.) Rodeo was 88 points. The record was shared by Jason Havens (2009) and Wes Stevenson (2013).

The Canby Rodeo concludes Aug. 18, so Larsen will have to wait through the final two performances to see if his ride holds up for the win.

“That is a young horse that I had never been on before,” Larsen said. “I asked around about him and I learned he was supposed to be a real good horse, and he was. He was powerful and real rider friendly and he let me show what I can do. Those are the horses you like to get on for sure.”

Larsen was seventh in the Aug. 13 PRCA | RAM World Standings with $83,451. The Canadian cowboy had qualified for the Wrangler Nationals Finals Rodeo the last three years, finishing a career-best third in the world standings in 2016 with $219,373.
