Lawrence Earns First PBR Win, Climbs Seven Spots in World Standings to No.17

THACKERVILLE, Okla. – For the first time in his PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) career, Stetson Lawrence stood atop the shark cage as the event winner, taking the buckle at the WinStar World Casino and Resort Invitational in Thackerville, Oklahoma.

After bucking off DaNutso (D&H Cattle Co./Buck Cattle/Erwin Cattle) at the 7.58 second-mark in Round 3, Lawrence (Willinston, North Dakota) came back with a vengeance to log a season-best 88.75-point ride aboard Pick-It Construction’s Find Jesus (Ogden Ranch/Hart Cattle Co.) in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round.

The match-up was a familiar one for the 28-year-old after he had previously covered the bull at March’s Bad Boy Mowdown in Little Rock, Arkansas for 86.5 points.

Lawrence leaves the Sooner State with $38,384 and 560 world points. He is now ranked No.17 in the world standings, up seven spots from No. 24 where he began the event.

The North Dakota bull rider trails world No. 1 Kaique Pacheco (Itatiba, Brazil) by 2,245 points.

In only his third event on the elite BFTS, Ramon de Lima (São Paulo, Brazil) finished off a career-best performance with a second-place showing.

Lima began the evening riding Swamp Wreck (01 Cattle Co./D&H Cattle Co.) for 86.25 points in Round 2, which he followed up with an 88.5-point trip aboard Black Rose (Broken Arrow Bucking Bulls) in the championship round.

The scores mark the rookie’s first two qualified rides on the BFTS.

The runner-up finish earned Lima $19,784 and 360 world points. He is now the fifth-ranked rider in the Rookie of the Year race, trailing 2012 PRCA champion Cody Teel (Kountze, Texas) by 1,038.33 points for the top spot.

Marco Antonio Eguchi (Poá, Brazi) finished third courtesy of his 87-point ride in the championship round aboard Alligator Arms (Hart Cattle Company), earning $13,334 and 280 world points.

Cody Nance (Paris, Tennessee) was the only rider to cover both of his long-round bulls and finished in fourth place.

Nance rode Sketchy Bob (D&H Cattle Co./Flinn) in Round 2 for 82.75 points, before bucking off Nailed (Broken Arrow Bucking Bulls) at 7.85 seconds in the championship round.

Earning $8,368 and 175 world points, Nance rose one spot to No.12 in the world rankings. He now trails Pacheco by 1,765 points.

Claudio Montanha Jr. (Ribeirão dos Indios, Brazil) rounded out the Top 5, earning $6,934 and 145 world points.

Going a perfect 2-for-2 Sunday, Montanha’s night began when he rode Hotel Hustler (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve) for 83.75 points in Round 2, which he followed with a 70-point trip aboard Bar Down (Jane Clark/Gene Owen) in the championship round.

The finish allowed Montanha to gain ground in the Rookie of the Year standings. He is currently No.2 and 571.67 points behind Teel.

In an event that was dominated by the bull power, the YETI “Built for the Wild” Bull of the Event honor was awarded to SweetPro’s Bruiser (D&H Cattle Co./Buck Cattle Co.), Magic Train (Jared Allen’s Pro Bull Team)and Jack Shot (D&H Cattle Co./David Huffman). All three animal athletes recorded matching 45.25-point bull scores in Saturday night’s 15/15 Bucking Battle after dispatching Teel, Fabiano Vieira (Pérolam Brazil) and Pacheco, respectively.

Bruiser has been named the high-marked bull of the event five times this season, while it is Jack Shot’s second and Magic Train’s first.

The PBR’s best will now head to the Show Me State for the third time this season, where JQH Arena in Springfield, Missouri, will host the PFIWestern.com Invitational, presented by Bass Pro Shops, Sept. 8-10.

PBR LIVE and the PBR LIVE app will broadcast Round 1 of the PFIWestern.com Invitational starting at 8:15 p.m. ET on Sept.8, Round 2 will begin at 7:15 p.m. ET on Sept. 9 and Championship Sunday can be seen starting at 2:30 p.m. ET.

CBS Sports Network will broadcast the Championship Sunday action starting 6 p.m. ET on Sept. 10.

The PFIWestern.com Invitational will also play host to the eighth 15/15 Bucking Battle of the season to be aired on CBS at 3:00 p.m. ET on Sept. 10.
