RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo (RNCFR) attendees will get an extra special treat on Friday, March 27 as country music icon Lee Greenwood takes the stage prior to the rodeo kickoff. His performance will open the third night of the championship rodeo, which also happens to be Wrangler® National Patriot Night. All active and retired military will be admitted free for one night only, and $2 from every ticket sold will benefit Horses for Heroes. Greenwood’s performance will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Silver Spurs Arena in Osceola Heritage Park. Attendees are encouraged to wear their best red, white and blue to show support for our nation’s heroes.
Most well known for his signature hit, “God Bless the U.S.A.,” Greenwood has more than 30 albums to his credit, with seven No. 1 songs and 25 charted singles. He has won numerous industry awards, including Male Vocalist of the Year for the Academy of Country Music in 1983; two Male Vocalist of the Year awards from the Country Music Association (1983 and 1984); and a Grammy for Top Male Vocal Performance in 1985 for “I.O.U.” He also won CMA Song of the Year in 1985 for writing “God Bless the USA,” which has been voted the most recognizable patriotic song in America.
Greenwood knows first-hand what it’s like to have loved ones fighting for the freedom of all Americans. His father served in the Navy and the Merchant Marine in World War II. “USA” is now part of the film for Homeland Security that is shown when swearing in new citizens to the United States. He performs for many charitable events and gives his time and name to numerous organizations and fundraisers. He is the National spokesperson for “Products for Good” and the Honor 1 Campaign, and is on the advisory board of the “Challenger Commission.” He’s also a member of the National Endowment for the Arts Council, a distinguished Presidential appointment.
