SACRAMENTO, Calif. –19-year-old phenom Jess Lockwood (Volborg, Montana) was on a mission to continue his spectacular start to the 2017 season as he rode his way to his second PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) event win of the season at the Frontier Communications Sacramento Clash Sunday afternoon at the Golden 1 Center. The three-day event was the highest attended in the PBR’s 14-year history of traveling to Sacramento, including a sell-out on Saturday night.

Lockwood fended off two-time World Champion J.B. Mauney (Statesville, North Carolina) by .25 points in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round to take the edge in the event average, propelling him to the event victory.

Lockwood went a perfect 4-for-4 for the second time this season and sealed the victory with a 90-point ride on BC Circular Insanity (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/H&C Bucking Bulls) to win the championship round. The ride was his first 90-point ride of the season as well as the first since he covered Legacy (2K Bucking Bulls) for 90 points in Tulsa, Oklahoma, last season.

With the win, Lockwood added 702.5 world points to his world standings lead. Lockwood currently leads No. 2 Marco Eguchi (Poa Sao Paulo, Brazil) by 802.5 points. The second-year rider also earned $39,090 for the win.

Chase Outlaw (Hamburg, Arkansas) finished second in Sacramento after a 3-for-4 performance Sunday. Outlaw won Round 3 after an 87-point ride on Thunderstruck (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/J.R. Scott) and ended his weekend with an 88.75-point ride on Modified Clyde (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Ken Barnhard) in the championship round. For his efforts, Outlaw earned 365 points toward the world standings and $19,580.

Mauney finished third after a 4-for-4 performance in California’s capital, launching him from 32nd in the world standings to 13th. Mauney covered both of his bulls Sunday, riding Damn Yankee (JD Nix Rodeo Co.) for 80 points in Round 3 and covering Brutus (D&H Cattle Co./Buck Cattle Co./ Bob & Jeri Adams) for 89 points to come in second in the championship round. Mauney earned 315 points toward the world standings and $12,600.

Eguchi went 3-for-4 Sunday to finish in fourth place. Eguchi rode Beaver Creek Beau (Chad Berger/Clay Struve/PBR Rock Bar) for 88.75 in the championship round. For the finish, Eguchi picked up 190 points toward the world standings and a $8,500 paycheck.

Eduardo Aparecido (Gouvelandia, Brazil) rounded out the Top 5 Sunday after going 3-for-4, including an 85.25-point ride on Red Sails in the Sunset (Dakota Rodeo/Struve/Berger/Heald) in the championship round. Aparecido earned 140 points toward the world standings and $6,650.

Spotted Demon (Julio Moreno Bucking Bulls) was named the YETI “Built For the Wild” Bull of the Event after tossing Lockwood in 4.66 seconds in Saturday’s 15/15 Bucking Battle. Spotted Demon earned a 45.5-point bull score for the out.

The Top 35 bull riders in the world will now head down the freeway to Anaheim, California, for the 20th anniversary edition of the Frontier Communications Showdown at the Honda Center Feb. 3-4.
