Lockwood Leads Velocity Tour Finals

LAS VEGAS – 2016 PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Rookie of the Year Jess Lockwood (Volborg, Montana) took the event lead at the Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour (RVT) Finals at South Point Arena on Sunday night.

Sitting 2-for-2, Lockwood goes into the final round on Monday leading the event overall. The 20-year-old Montana man is ranked fifth in the world and is closing the gap between himself and PBR world leader Derek Kolbaba (Walla Walla, Washington). Kolbaba failed to pick up any points in Round 2 after being bucked off by Budakon (OK Corralis/Gordon/Rike Ranch/D&H Cattle CO) and is just 597.5 points ahead of Lockwood.

Lockwood rounded out the Top-5 in Round 2 with matching 86.5-point rides alongside reigning PRCA champion Sage Kimzey. Kimzey rode Sitting Bull (Sirridge/Donaho) followed by Lockwood ending the night on Blood Money (Halpain & Roth Bucking Bulls). The pair both walk away from the second night of action with 17.5 world standings points apiece.

Luciano de Castro (Guzolandia, Brazil) picked up the Round 2 win with an impressive 90.5-point ride aboard Big Black (Mickey Robison/ Steve Haworth). He will go into Round 3 on Monday night having earned 80 world points Sunday.

Fellow rookie Koal Livingston (Burleson, Texas) rode the 8 seconds needed for a second-place win aboard Hangman (Sirridge/Donaho). Livingston walks away from Round 2 with an impressive 87.5-point ride and 50 world points.

Indian National Finals Rodeo champion and special invitee Cody Jesus (Window Rock, Arizona) was not far behind with a third-place, 87-point ride aboard Grave Digger (Viducic Bucking Bulls). The 19-year-old received 30 world points for his efforts.

American Bucking Bull Inc. (ABBI) paid out $250,000 to their top Lifetime Derby bulls Sunday night. The champion was 423 War Cloud (Tom & Peggy), who earned a 90 which was worth $53,000. Splitting second/third was 202 Capone (Martinez Bucking Bulls) and B433 Night Sweats (Plummer/Hart Cattle Co.). Both animals earned an 89, worth $29,500 apiece. B1 Mind Freak (D&H/Buck) placed fourth with an 88.83 winning $18,000. In fifth with an 88.5 was 77B Medicine Man (Rockin R Bucking Bulls), which earned $16,000. The final night of the Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour Finals will start at 7 p.m. PT on Oct. 30 at the South Point Arena. The final round will decide which five riders will advance to the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals, which begins on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at T-Mobile Arena.
