Lockwood Takes Round 1 in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, Calif. –19-year-old young gun Jess Lockwood (Volborg, Montana) continued his torrid start to the 2017 season as he rode his way to the Round 1 victory at the PBR Frontier Communications Sacramento Clash Friday night at Golden 1 Center.

Lockwood turned in an 87.5-point ride on Baton Rouge (Triplett Bucking Bulls) Friday to claim his second round win of 2017. He earned 100 world points and added to his world standings lead. He also picked up $3,580 for the win. Including his ride Friday, Lockwood has gone 8-for-12 to open the season.

2016 World Champion Cooper Davis (Jasper, Texas) finished in second place Friday after an 86.75-point ride on El Capitan (Humpz and Hornz / Sis & Stan Bucking Bulls). Davis earned 60 points toward the world standings as well as $2,750 for his effort.

Cody Nance (Paris, Tennessee) came in third after turning in his second ride of 2017. Nance reached 8 seconds aboard Gangsta Roll (Humpz and Hornz / Sis & Stan Bucking Bulls) for 86.5 points and picked up 50 points toward the world standings along with a $2,000 paycheck.

Marco Eguchi (Poa Sao Paulo, Brazil) rode Bronstad’s Pistol Pete (JD Nix Rodeo Co.) for 85.75 points to secure a fourth place finish in Round 1. Eguchi earned 40 world points and moved into third place in the world standings. Eguchi trails Lockwood by 350 points and earned $1,300 for the finish.

Australian Cody Heffernan (Singleton, Australia) and Dener Barbosa (Paulo De Faria, Brazil) rounded out the Top 5 Friday night with a tie at 85 points. Heffernan rode Mustache Sally (Humpz and Hornz / Sis & Stan Bucking Bulls) while Barbosa rode Uncle Fester (Humpz and Hornz / Sis & Stan Bucking Bulls).

The Top 35 bull riders in the world will return to Golden 1 Center Saturday night for Round 2 of the Frontier Communications Sacramento Clash. The action starts at 9:15 ET on PBR LIVE. CBS Sports Network will also broadcast the Round 2 action at 10 p.m. ET.

Immediately following Round 2, the Top 15 bull riders will face the Top 15 bulls in the second 15/15 Bucking Battle of the season. CBS will broadcast the 15/15 Bucking Battle on Sunday Jan. 29 at 12 p.m ET.
