Long John Replaces Stone Sober in Guymon

GUYMON, Okla. – SweetPro’s Long John has replaced Stone Sober as the $10,000 bounty bull for tonight’s Kasey Hayes / Stormy Wing BlueDEF Velocity Tour event.

H.D. Page withdrew Stone Sober from the event on Saturday morning after discovering that the bovine athlete’s toe injury had returned.

“He caught his toe on something,” Page said. “I noticed it when we got here and it has gotten worse since then.”

Long John has gone 9-1 this year on the Built Ford Tough Series with an average bull score of 45.42 points per out and he is 34-6 in his career at various PBR and PRCA events.

However, Long John is also coming off an injury after cutting his back right foot last month while with some cows.

“We had a little episode with the river getting through the pasture he was in so we had to push him and about 60 cows up on a spot and he got into something,” Page said. “I don’t know what, but I think he is ready to go. The cut has healed and everything is good.”

Fans can catch all of the action from the Henry C Hitch Pioneer Arena on Saturday night starting at 9 p.m. ET on PBR LIVE

Long John is getting preferential treatment in his pen on Saturday as temperatures begin to soar into the low 100s. The World Champion Bull contender has a sprinkler system spraying him with water and actually appears to be enjoying the Oklahoma heat wave.

“I don’t know. He never said,” Page joked when asked if Long John enjoys being in the sun.

This will be Long John’s first out since bucking off Nathan Schaper in 3.45 seconds at the BFTS Rumble in the Rockies. He was marked 46.75 points in that performance and it a came a month after Hayes nearly rode Long John before being tossed at the 6.49-second mark.

“He is still a little thin, I think he is good to go,” Page concluded. “We had him up in the pen there about two weeks now and kind of pouring the feed to him. He is starting to gain and is on the gain now.”
