AUSTIN, Texas – Following two nights of non-stop action at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Luciano de Castro (Guzolandia, Brazil) collected his second PBR (Professional Bull Riders) elite series win of the 2018 season at The 25th PBR: Unleash The Beast, Winstar World Casino & Resort Invitational.

Castro won the event after selecting Canadian Mist (TNT Bucking Bulls/ Hart Cattle Co) in the championship round and then recording an impressive 92.5-point ride. Earlier in the evening, before making the only 90-point ride of the event, he rode Big City (Plummer/ Hart Cattle Co) for 88 points in Round 2.

For his 2-for-3 efforts throughout the weekend, the Brazilian cowboy earned 555 world points, moving him from the No. 6 spot in the PBR world standings to No. 4. Castro also took home a paycheck of $37,875.

As the second half of the PBR 2018 season winds down, a mere 1602.5 points separates the Top 5 riders in the world standings as they embark upon the last three events before the PBR World Finals in Las Vegas.

2017 PBR Rookie of the Year Jose Vitor Leme (Ribas do Rio Pardo, Brazil) finished second with a 2-for-3 performance in the Texas capital. In Round 2 on Saturday night, the young Brazilian conquered Hitman (EVP Bucking Bulls) for 88.25 points. He went on to secure an 89.25-point ride aboard Ol’ Boy (Dakota Rodeo-Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Ken Barnhard) in the championship round to keep his hold at No. 3 in the world standings. Leme earned 400 world points and $20,480 for his weekend efforts.

Claudio Montanha Jr. (Pacaembu Sao Paulo, Brazil), who entered the weekend at No. 2 in the world standings, secured a third-place finish after going 2-for-3 at the Frank Erwin Center. After tying for fourth place in Friday’s Round 1, he went on to make the 8 aboard Medicine Man (TNT Bucking Bulls/Hart Cattle Co) in Saturday’s Round 2. Despite being bucked off by M.A.G.A (TNT Bucking Bulls/Hart Cattle Co) in the championship round, Montanha’s efforts earned him a weekend total of 255 world points and a $10,775 paycheck.

Australian young gun Lachlan Richardson (Gresford, Australia) also went 2-for-3 when he was bucked off by Rising Sun (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Heald Pro Bulls) in the championship round. Despite the fall in the final round, Richardson took home a fourth-place finish and moved up from No. 33 in the world standings to No. 26. Earlier in the night, Richardson covered Mac’s Barbeque (Owens/Wyatt) for 85.75 points in Round 2. He picked up 177.5 world points and an $8,125 paycheck.

Rounding out the Top 5 with a tie was 2018 PBR Rookie of the Year contender Colten Jesse (Konawa, Oklahoma) and Brazilian cowboy Ramon de Lima (Sao Paulo, Brazil). After winning Friday’s Round 1, Jesse didn’t fair well in Round 2 aboard Short Pop (D&H Cattle Co/ Shaw Enterprises) or Cochise (Jane Clark/Gene Owen) in the later championship round. Despite being bucked off both his bulls on Saturday night, the Oklahoma native maintained his hold at No. 19 in the world standings and further closed the gap between himself and Rookie of the Year front-runner Keyshawn Whitehorse (McCracken, Utah).

Lima turned in a 2-for-3 performance over the weekend after riding Force Awaken (Jane Clark/Gene Owen) for 83.75 points in Round 2 and then conquering Bottoms Up (TNT Bucking Bulls/Hart Cattle Co) for 88.5 in the championship round. The weekend points moved him from No. 5 in the world standings to No. 4.

Both cowboys earned 115 world points for their efforts. Jesse left Austin with a paycheck of $6,980 while Castro earned $6,570.

The YETI “Built for the Wild” Bulls of the Event was Smooth Wreck(Owens/Wyatt/Smith) who dispatched Eduardo Aparecido (Gouvelandia, Brazil) after 3.98 seconds and Canadian Mist (TNT Bucking Bulls/ Hart Cattle Co) for his impressive ride with Castro. Both recorded bull scores of 45.5.

Elsewhere in the PBR, young gun Cannon Cravens (Porum, Oklahoma) captured his first-ever PBR Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour (RVT) event win Saturday night by being victorious at the Huntington Invitational. After beginning the two-day event with an 85.5-point trip on Get Smoked (Phenom/JCL/Swalin/Good #1) in Round 1, the 18-year-old surged to the event lead with a Round 2 winning 86.5-point ride on Dirty Dan (TCB Ranch/K-C Bucking Bulls).

As the final man out of the chutes at the second RVT event of the season in Huntington, Cravens again led the field, covering Tractor Tippin (Barker/Barnett #2) for 88.5 points. For his efforts, the Oklahoma-native collected a check for $6,800 and 120 world points.

The Top 35 bull riders in the world will now head to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for The 25th PBR: Unleash the Beast Ariat Invitational presented by Cooper Tires at the Fiserv Forum October 6-7.
